Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is the precise medical term for heart bypass surgery and the most common open-heart procedure in the United States. The long-term prognosis for recovery is excellent provided a patient makes a few changes in lifestyle.
Identification
Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a surgical procedure designed to route blood flow around extensively blocked coronary arteries. This is necessary due to the condition known as atherosclerosis, a buildup of plaque (fatty deposits) that clog delivery of blood.
Risk Factors
Complications are possible depending on factors such as age, smoking history, overall health, other medical issues and the level of heart damage, according to The Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
Time Frame
A four- to seven-day stay in the hospital is typical for post-surgery recovery. "It may take up to three months to fully recover from the surgery," reports the American Heart Association.
Prognosis
Although results vary from individual to individual, the prognosis for heart bypass is encouraging. "The long term results of CABG are excellent," according to the UCLA Department of Surgery. "The majority of patients obtain excellent relief of their symptoms of angina after surgery." Many who undergo the surgery notice an increase in energy after the recovery.
Considerations
Some patients require additional bypass surgery in the future, usually 10 years or more after the first procedure. That likelihood is largely dependent on whether the individual adopts a healthier lifestyle focused on fending off the buildup of plaque in the arteries.
As the oldest stone on earth, the zircon was once considered an alternative for the diamond. According to the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA), "In the Middle Ages, zircon was said to aid sleep, bring prosperity, and promote honor and wisdom in its owner." In more recent times, the cheaper, man-made, cubic zirconia has replaced the popularity of the zircon. Jewelry enthusiasts may want to reconsider the zircon as a collector's item for its wide range of color, brilliance and quality.
Facts
Zircon is a mineral that is made up of zirconium silicate and is often used as a gemstone. The name is believed to have come from the Persian word zargun, which means "gold-colored" or jargoon, which is the name given to certain varieties of zircon. Zircons from different localities have a wide range of color, from colorless to the primary colors and all colors in between. It was once suggested to call the zircon "polycrasilite," which is Greek for "many mixture," since the zircon often contains many trace elements.
History
As the ICA states, "Hindu poets tell of the Kalpa Tree, the ultimate gift to the gods, a glowing tree covered in gemstone fruit with leaves of zircon." The oldest known object on earth is a tiny zircon that was located in Western Australia and is 4.404 billion years old, claims the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA). Zircon was also found in a meteorite in Chile and was an estimated 4.6 billion years old. Lyncurium, an ancient stone used for signets, is considered to have been either zircon or amber.
Types
A "noble" or "precious" zircon is zircon that is of gemstone quality. Hyacinth and jacinth are red and orange zircons. Azurite is a type of zircon that is found in the Azores. Other minerals which appear to be altered zircon are malacon, cyrtolite and oerstedite. Auerbachite is closely related to zircon and is found in Russia. Often mistaken for the zircon, cubic zirconia is a man-made mineral that is a cheap imitation of diamond and was discovered in 1937. The Blue Zircon is an alternative birthstone for December.
Geography
Zircon can often be found with sapphires in Western Australia. Zircon can also be found in Norway, the Rhine area, Central France, Russia, Canada and Tasmania. Zircon is frequently mined in Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Thailand. In the United States, Zircon can be located in New York and North Carolina.
Identification
Rarely free of color, natural zircon is typically red, brown, orange, green and yellow and all colors in between. While zircon is generally opaque, the gemstone is transparent. When exposed to high heat, the zircon may lose or change its color but it gains brilliance. Most gem quality zircons have been heat treated. Exposure to sunlight may even cause this change in color. Zircon commonly is found with other stones, such as granite, sapphire and limestone. Its hardness on the Mohs scale is about 7.5.

A Threadlift is the least invasive form of face and necklift that is currently being offered by cosmetic surgeons. The procedure is also referred to as a Featherlift, a Contour Lift, Silk Lift and Aptos Lift, but whatever name it goes by, the procedure takes roughly an hour to complete. The Threadlift, first publicized in 1998, uses a permanent suture (the same material that's been used in surgery for more than three decades) that has been modified for the procedure.
Procedure
The first step of the Threadlift procedure is to give the patient some anesthesia. Novacaine is typically used and is injected in the hairline above the patient's ear and in the patient's cheek. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, a 1-inch incision is made in the hairline above the ear. A hollow needle is inserted into this incision and is directed to the area where the patient's skin is sagging. The Threadlift suture is inserted through the hollow needle, which is then removed. The suture, which is designed to grip the patient's skin from the inside, is then engaged, and the sagging skin is pulled tighter. The suture is then knotted and secured under the patient's hairline. Excess suture is trimmed away, and then the incision is closed.
Post-Surgery
Since a Threadlift is such a minimally invasive procedure, and it takes so little time to perform, it's often the choice for those who don't feel they need a full face lift. However, follow-up visits with a doctor or surgeon should definitely be made to ensure that there are no negative side effects or infections. Additionally, though it's a simple procedure, a Threadlift is not permanent. Results of the temporary skin tightening may last up to five years, but the suture will in time sag, and the skin may return at least partially to its pre-Threadlift state. Additional Threadlifts may be performed though, if the patient and the surgeon believe it is in their best interest to do so.

Lemongrass oil is used in the aromatherapy industry.
Lemongrass oil derives from an organic Indian grass widely used in the aromatherapy industry. It has a sweet, lemony smell and is dark yellow in color, with the same basic consistency as water. It is used for many different purposes, including offering a sense of relaxation and rejuvenation for the body and mind.
Cymbopogon Citral
The main component in lemongrass oil is Cymbopogon Citral, or just Citral. Lemongrass oil consists of 65 to 85 percent Citral. Citral is a pale yellow liquid, often colorless, with a strong fresh lemon smell. Citral is extracted from fresh leaves by using steam distillation. It can be blended with other ingredients as well, including Bergamot, Cardomon and Petigrain Rose.
Other Components
Essential oils are made with many different components to obtain their aromatic smells and purposes. Lemongrass oil contains quantities of Farmesol, Nerol, Citronellal, Myrcene and Geranyl acetate. Most brands of lemongrass oil contain between 12 and 25 percent Myrcene, typically the second-highest component in the oil. People purchasing lemongrass oil may look for a higher content of Myrcene because of its perceived effects. If the Myrcene has a higher content, most likely the Citral content is lower. People use this component as a pain reliever and antibacterial treatment.
Uses
Lemongrass oil can be digested as a pill, ingested by breathing in fumes or applied directly to the skin. It is used for fighting jet lag, eliminating ticks and fleas from pets and as a relaxation tool to combat headaches, nervousness and stress. People also use lemongrass oil for respiratory infections, skin toner, antiseptic and to relieve muscle pain.

Toddlers are always falling over and losing their balance. However, with some toddlers, there is an actual balance issue. If your toddler is falling for no visible reason, you may want to consult a doctor. There are a few different reasons for a balance problem, and treatments are available.
Signs
Toddlers with a balance problem will trip on everything and nothing. They also trip more than most toddlers. Some may lose their balance 20-30 times a day, even while standing still. If your toddler is a late walker and just learning to walk, do not worry if they lose their balance often. But you are right to suspect a problem if they already walk, run, and stand but losing their balance far too often.
Causes
Problems in the inner ear may cause vertigo, which Webster's Dictionary defines as "a sensation of motion in which the individual or the individual's surroundings seem to whirl dizzily." Vertigo causes a loss of balance even when you're standing still.
Diagnosis
To diagnose a balance problem, your doctor will run a few tests. He may want your toddler to have an MRI just to make sure that everything is okay in their head. A hearing test is a common test. Your doctor may also run eye tests if your toddler is old enough to follow directions. Watching how the eyes following spots and lines can detect a problem. A posturography test, as defined by the Mayo Clinic, tries to identify which part of the balance system your toddler relies on most.
Treatments
If the inner ear, or vestibular system, is the problem, your child may have to undergo rehabilitation that may consist of balance exercises and head and eye movement exercises. In the case of ear infections, doctors are likely to prescribe antibiotics, but there are also homeopathic treatments that you could try, such as Ginko Biloba and Lemon Bioflavonoids. Consult your doctor before trying any homeopathic medications.
Prevention/Solution
Do not ignore your toddler's balance problems. If your toddler is old enough to talk and understand dizziness, you need to teach them to sit down when they feel dizzy so they do not lose their balance. Wash yours and your toddler's hands frequently so as to avoid the ear infections that can learn to trouble balancing. Such infections are often a complication of flu, so getting flu shots ought to help you avoid them.

Ironically, most commercial powders are made of talcum powder, which is unhealthy.
Corn starch feels the same, is more healthy, and can be "personalized" with your favorite scent.
Instructions
1. Open the top of a shaker jar. You can buy a jar or thoroughly clean a used herb jar. (not garlic!) Using a funnel, fill the jar halfway with cornstarch.
2. Remove the funnel and spray or add a drop of perfume into the jar. One or two squirts or drops should be enough.
3. Close the solid lid of the jar. Gently shake and turn it to mix the scent with the power.
4. Open the lid again and fill nearly to the top with more cornstarch. Add another squirt or drop of perfume.
5. Cornstarch is even more absorbent than talc. To feel dry, apply it to the insides of your elbows and the backs of your knees... even your underarms.
Apply it lightly, as it cakes more easily.
This method is great for layering; wearing one scent in more than one form so it will last throughout the day.

You’ve recently hit your head and now you’ve begun having headaches. Naturally, you wonder if the headaches are related to the injury, but you aren’t sure find out. I interviewed Eric Stiner, MD, Chief Resident of Neurosurgery at UCLA Medical Center, to find out determine when a head injury is causing headaches.
Instructions
1. Determine if the headaches begin after a head trauma occurred. Pay attention to how soon after the injury the headaches began, when they occur, how often they occur and if there are any particular triggers. This is valuable information for your health care provider.
2. Try to determine if the headaches are different or the same as other headaches you typically have or have had in the past. For example, if you tend to have migraines, do these new headaches feel the same or different? Does it feel like the tension headache you usually get after a tough day at work? Tell you health care provider about any similarities or differences.
3. For a mild head injury, headaches usually improve will improve after about two weeks. In the meantime, treat the headaches with a pain reliever such as acetaminophen (e.g. Tylenol). Do not use other types of pain relievers unless your physician knows about the injury and approves the medication, as most other types of over-the-counter pain relievers can increase the risk of bleeding.
4. If the head injury is more severe, such as in the case of a severe closed head injury, headaches will usually last beyond two weeks and can last as long as six months. If you’ve already been evaluated by a medical professional, follow their advice and pain management suggestions until the headaches subside.
5. Make sure to report persistent headaches, as well as any other signs of concussion, to your physician. “It is a good idea for people with persistent headaches to have a medical evaluation in any case, but this is especially important following a head injury,” Dr. Stiner says.

There are many different reasons why muscle spasms happen to the human body. Muscle spasms are involuntary contractions of the body that are very painful. They can happen in any part of the body that has muscles. To help reduce the chance of happen muscle spasms, the following list will help you to have a healthy body.
Instructions
1. Drink plenty of fluids. If you are participating in strenuous activities outside or in a place where you are most likely to sweat, drinking plenty of fluids will help you stay hydrated. When your body becomes dehydrated, your muscles are more prone to cramp up.
2. Relax. Muscle spasms tend to occur when you are under stress. These spams often effect your neck shoulders and back.
3. Stretch before working out. Stretching before exercising or doing repetitive movements can help minimize muscle cramps in the body. It gives the muscles a chance to stretch and relax.
4. Loosen the covers at the end of your bed at night. Leg muscle spasms may occur at night while you are sleeping. Allowing your legs and feet to fully stretch out helps keep your muscles relax.
5. Seek medical attention. If you are plagued with serious spasms in your body all of the time, seek medical help. Your doctor may give you medication to help with the pain and to relax the muscles.

Drinking stagnant water may be unhealthy, whether the water comes from outdoors or through pipes. Some bacteria, algae, and parasites are better able to multiply in water that is stagnant.
The causes of stagnant water differ somewhat between the developed and the developing world, with the former usually suffering troubles with drinking stagnant water after watermain breaks.
The danger of drinking stagnant water is not to be conflated with stagnant water increasing vector-borne (e.g. mosquito) diseases like dengue and malaria, or a glass of chlorinated tap water sitting out for days.
Causes of stagnant water
In the developing world, stagnant water comes from improper drainage, and a population exceeding water capacity of outdated infrastructure. Irrigating and washing crops with contaminated water can also cause disease.
After a water main break, workers need to shut off water to fix the main. When water pressure then drops, back-flow caused by back-siphoning or back-pressure can occur if flowback prevention systems fail. This could allow contaminated water to enter the public system, such as brackish water from a fire extinguisher system, fertilizer from a nursery, or chemicals from an industrial plant.
Contaminants can also find their way into public drinking water directly through the break in the water main. Studies have shown that soil surrounding buried pipe can contain fecal pathogens. Additionally, runoff from streets and farmland can be tainted with microbial and chemical contaminants.
Waterborne diseases
In the U.S., the CDC links 70% of waterborne diseases to two parasites: Crytosporidium parvum and Giardia lamblia. There are no effective drugs for Cryptosporidium; treatment is by rehydration.
But water main break contamination is not confined to these two pathogens. Others are Legionnaires' disease, which can cause pneumonia, and E. coli infection.
Why do bacteria like stagnant water?
Anaerobic bacteria thrive in stagnant and oxygen-deficient water, and are impaired to varying degrees when exposed to oxygen. Denitrifying bacteria, which metabolize nitrogenous compounds, are an example. Bacteria that die when exposed to oxygen, called obligate anaerobes, do not have an enzyme to convert lethal superoxide into water or O2. As fish aquarium owners know, surface agitation provides water oxygenation.
Camping
When camping, don't drink pond water without treating it. The presence of algae is a good indicator that water is too stagnant to drink. Purifying water while camping should be a multi-stage process. Boiling, filtration, and water purification tablets preferably should all be used to make water as safe to drink as possible.

Failure to obtain a good night's sleep is a serious condition that can lead to many other problems including deteriorating health, increased stress levels, difficulty performing work-related tasks, and elevated risk of car accident or injuries from operating machinery. Competing conflicts of improper diet, poor health, and economic and emotional stress can make sleeping difficult, but learning proper nutrition habits, cutting down on stress and creating the proper environment will help you get a good night's rest.
Health and Nutrition
The most important factor in obtaining a better night's sleep is to avoid drinking caffeine four to six hours before bedtime. Caffeine is a stimulant that stays in the body for up to eight hours, so if you're experiencing trouble sleeping and are having a cup of coffee or tea in the afternoon, then caffeine may be the reason for your insomnia.
Eat just the right amount for dinner: The feeling of an overly full stomach will keep you awake just as easily as hunger pangs will. Some sleep-inducing foods to try for dinner include tuna, asparagus, pumpkin, potatoes, bananas and peaches, but be careful not to eat them too late, as late eating or drinking can disrupt sleep patterns.
Environmental Factors
In order to sleep better, you must create a more sleep-inducing, peaceful environment. Use the bedroom as an aid in obtaining rest by avoiding activities you would perform in other areas of the house. For example, watch television in the living room instead of the bedroom, eat snacks on the couch or meals in the dining room, and avoid doing those sorts of activities in the bedroom. Avoid clutter as well; a room filled with clutter may only serve to remind you of all the tasks you need to perform, as opposed to creating a haven for you to relax your mind and unwind from the day. The bedroom should be a dark, comfortable quiet place that creates the mood for a relaxing night's rest. Avoid bedroom temperatures that are above 75 or below 54 (too-hot or too-cold temperatures will disturb sleep).
Good Practices and Stress Reduction
A good night's sleep requires clarity of mind. That's why distraction, mental worries or stress can keep you tossing and turning. In order to get a better night's sleep, you must find the pattern of relaxing from the day that works for you. Many exercise the body and physically tire themselves before sleeping, others take a relaxing bubble bath or perform meditation in order to relax the mind. While both of these practices have been known to work, one will work better for you than another, so be sure to try different routines in order to find the one that works for you. A good tip to get a full night's sleep is to avoid taking a nap during the day. Instead of napping, go through the day and see if you're not just tired enough at the end of the day to sleep the whole night through. If you smoke, stop smoking: Like caffeine, nicotine is a stimulant that stays in your body for hours after having a smoke.

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a mental illness in which a person has a distorted self-image, unstable moods and difficulty maintaining healthy, stable relationships with others.
Symptoms
When diagnosing a patient with BPD, a psychologist looks for symptoms consistent with the DSM-IV. These include: self-destructive, impulsive behavior in at least two different areas (excessive spending, promiscuity, binge eating, chemical dependency and abuse); a pattern of unstable relationships of varying intensity; unstable sense of self; chronic feelings of emptiness or abandonment; suicidal behavior or self-mutilation; problems with anger management; paranoia or dissociation.
Interviews
When a therapist is looking for a diagnosis of BPD, he interviews a patient at length, taking note of aforementioned symptoms in the past and present. He may ask the patient to fill out a special questionnaire or for permission to interview close friends and family to gain more insight. Some potential causes of BPD may include environmental factors, such as abuse and neglect, thus making these interviews important.
Other Disorders
BPD may occur concurrently with other disorders, such as Bipolar Disorder, anxiety disorders, depression or chemical dependency. Some BPD symptoms resemble other disorders. A trained mental health professional will be able to differentiate.

Energy healing practitioners heal patients by channeling energy into their energy field. This helps remove negative blocks, cleanse the energy field, replenish energy and balance the patient. Energy healing can be used to heal several conditions, including emotional problems, hormonal imbalances and addiction.
Instructions
Understand Your Energy Field
1. Know that your physical body is surrounded by a field of energy. This energy field consists of your aura and your 7 chakras.
2. Understand that ailments such as stress and addiction form energy blocks that are stored in the energy field.
3. Be aware that blocks in your energy field go on to manifest as diseases in the physical body.
4. Use energy healing to remove these energy blocks.
Understand Energy Healing
5. Think of energy healing as a non-invasive method of healing that focuses on the energy body. It is used to cure physical, emotional and mental disorders. It heals by cleansing the energy field, replenishing lost energy and activating new energy.
6. Understand that there are different types of energy healing methods. Among the most popular methods are Qi Gong, Therapeutic Touch, Reiki and Quantum Touch. Although the methods are different, any one of the forms may be used to overcome addiction.
7. Know what to expect at a healing session. Using a variety of hand motions, depending on the form of choice, the energy healer scans the energy field for energy blocks, removes them and channels more energy into the body.
Use Energy Healing to Overcome Addiction
8. Visit the American Holistic Health Association Web site to find a database of practitioners nationwide (see Resources below).
9. Call the practitioner to make an appointment. Find out what energy healing forms the practitioner uses and be sure that he is certified in all of them.
10. Discuss your reason for seeking treatment and verify that the practitioner has dealt with cases of addiction before. He should be able to offer suggestions for treatment based on your needs.
11. Find out what the cost of treatment will be. Many practitioners offer moderate prices for fixed session durations.
12. Arrive for your treatment ready to receive healing to overcome addiction. Any doubts you may have will lessen your experience of the treatment.
13. Learn more about energy healing at The Energy Medicine Institute (see Resources below).

Medicaid is government-provided health insurance for people who can't afford insurance on their own. It's available to low-income individuals and to families who meet certain eligibility requirements. Payments are made directly to health care providers and sometimes a small copay is required from the patient.
How Medicaid Works
Though the program is funded by the federal government, it is administered a little differently by each state. This means that each state can set its own guidelines defining who is eligible and what services are provided. Many states also fund their own Medicaid programs for low-income individuals and families who do not meet the federal eligibility requirements.
Tubal Ligations
Tubal ligation is a permanent form of birth control in a woman. It is a surgical procedure that involves having the fallopian tubes tied off. This interrupts the pathway between the ovaries and uterus. Eggs leave the ovaries and travel down the fallopian tubes where they can be fertilized in the uterus. With the tubes are tied off, conception will not occur.
Reverse Tubal Ligations
Sometimes a woman who has had this procedure done will change her mind. Perhaps she has divorced and remarried and wants to start a family with her new husband. In these cases, a tubal ligation can sometimes be reversed with surgery. The surgeon reattaches the fallopian tubes and places an implant in them so there is once again a passable pathway for the eggs.
Medicaid and Tubal Ligations
The cost of a reverse tubal ligation can run between $5,000 and $10,000 usually. Medicaid will sometimes cover tubal ligation or at least a portion of the cost as a method of birth control, but it will depend on what state the woman resides in. Some states will only cover the cost if the woman has given birth at least twice before or has been pregnant at least three times. There will also probably be a 30-day waiting period.
Medicaid and Reverse Tubal Ligations
Reverse tubal ligation is not usually covered by Medicaid. As late as 1996, New York Medicaid, which is the most expensive system in the country, would cover the procedure, but many other states will not. See the Resources section for a link to other state's Medicaid rules.
Sleep talking, also known as somniloquy, is a parasomnia disorder that is harmless but nonetheless is viewed as problematic and even unsettling by some. Some sleep talkers only mumble sounds, while others may ramble off long and complex strings of sentences. While the details of the effects of the disorder are fairly straightforward, the "why" behind it all is decidedly more complex.
Typically, sleep talking happens during periods following or during REM sleep, as transitory arousals occur. Consciousness does not exist and the sleep talker can neither control nor be aware of their speech. Sleep talking is not purely native to REM-based sleep circumstances, however, and can also occur during NREM sleep. In the case of NREM, sleep talking constitutes what is known as a motor breakthrough. A motor breakthrough occurs because the words spoken in a dream--the dream speech--are actually spoken aloud in the realm of reality. Hence, the boundaries between reality and the dream world are broken down in sleep-talking during NREM sleep.
Sleep talking isn't always a solitary phenomenon. While sleep talking can occur all on its own, it often comes paired with another sleep disorder. Such sleep disorders that may come paired with sleep talking include night terrors, sleep-related eating disorder (SRED), REM Sleep behavior disorder (RBD) and sleepwalking. While most of these are self-explanatory, REM sleep behavior disorder is characterized by disruptive and even obscene sleep talking.
Sleep talking is considered harmless and does not require treatment; it often occurs randomly in people, especially younger children, and may be (but not necessarily) caused by another sleep disorder (see above), substance abuse, a mental health disorder, use of prescription drugs or a preexisting medical condition. Sleep talking can occur in up to 50 percent of children, but it tends to disappear after puberty, with only roughly 5 percent of adults experiencing the phenomenon. Men and women are equally susceptible to the disorder, and sleep talking has been known to run in families.
While dedicated medical help for sleep talking isn't necessary, for peace of mind or to possibly discover an underlying reason for the phenomenon, a friend or partner may assist in monitoring the sleep talking events. If a friend or loved one is not available to help, an audio recording device may be used, particularly one which records sounds only when sounds are present. If this device or a friend records profane use of language during sleep talking, this can be an indicator that another sleep disorder is at work.

For over 40 years, Weight Watchers has been synonymous with diet and weight loss. You probably know someone who has been on Weight Watchers at one time or another, or have at least seen commercials or ads for the program. In the ever-changing diet industry where the next miracle diet always seems to be right around the corner, how has Weight Watchers continued to grow and thrive?
History
Jean Nidetch founded Weight Watchers simply and organically in her Queens home. Back in 1961, fed up and frustrated with yo-yo dieting, Nidetch reached out to a group of overweight friends. Together they went on a diet, meeting once a week to discuss their triumphs and struggles. The group was successful and grew quickly in numbers, and in 1961 Jean incorporated her idea into a business called Weight Watchers. She developed a set eating program and hired leaders to conduct meetings to help dieters succeed.
Philosophy
Weight Watchers believes that diet is just one element of leading a well-balanced, healthy life. In addition to sound food choices, they encourage emotional health and exercise through their program. Meetings focus on accountability, group support and celebration of success.
Program
Although the design of the Weight Watchers program has changed throughout the years, the main focus is still the same: caloric intake. The plan is designed to track daily eating, and allots you a fixed amount you may consume. The current program focuses on "points," which are values assigned to specific foods. The number of points you are allowed per day depends on your current weight and the goals you wish to achieve.
The plan does not require you to eat prepackaged or Weight Watchers branded foods. Still, they have a selection of foods such as snacks, shakes and frozen entrees as well as cookbooks and measuring tools designed to work in conjunction with the program if you choose.
In Person and Online
You may join Weight Watchers by:
- Signing up at a Weight Watchers center where you will weigh in weekly prior to attending your leader-led meeting.
- Signing up to participate in the program at home online, with the ability to track your daily diet and progress via the Weight Watchers interactive website.
Cost
As of September 2009, pricing is as follows:
Traditional meetings: register online or at a center for a monthly pass at $39.95/month (includes subscription to Weight Watchers eTools, an interactive online resource.
Online program: register online at $46.90 for the first month, $16.95/each additional month.
Please note that Weight Watchers pricing changes from time to time based on promotions and specials.
Weight gain is a normal symptom of premenstrual syndrome, or PMS. This symptom of PMS is due to water retention.
Definition
Water retention occurs when your body retains more water than it should. This can cause a slight increase in weight as well as bloating.
Causes
According to the Mayo Clinic, it is unclear why women experience symptoms of PMS, or why water retention occurs directly before a woman's period. It is suggested that the hormonal changes in the body play a large part.
Symptoms
Symptoms of water retention include a slight increase in weight, bloating and feeling heavier.
Prevention/Solution
According to the Mayo Clinic website, lowering salt intake, being physically active and eating healthier can help reduce water retention before a woman's period.
Treatment
Water retention is not always preventable, but it is treatable. There are many over-the-counter medications available, such as Midol or Pamprin, that relieve water retention and other symptoms of PMS.

Tibolone is a regimen of hormone replacement medicines that are meant for women undergoing menopause to help relieve the symptoms that are associated with "the change." Like any medicine, it carries risks with its benefits.
What is Tibolone?
Tibolone is a synthetic steroid that affect the way the ovaries produce estrogen, testosterone and prostaglandins. It is used to treat women of menopausal age and alleviate symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness and lowered libido.
While Tibolone is not an actual hormone, because of its action on reproductive hormones, it is classified with a group of drugs called HRTs-- or hormone replacement therapy drugs.
How does Tibolone work?
Tibolone helps to bring balance between the female sex hormones during menopause in women. When menopause strikes, women often experience a variety of symptoms due to the imbalance of hormones within the body. These symptoms are usually unpleasant and include hot flashes, sweating, mood swings, decreased sex drive and vaginal discomfort.
Because Tibolone works to restore hormonal balance, the symptoms of menopause are greatly decreased.
What are the common side effects associated with Tibolone?
The most common side effect of Tibolone is bleeding from the vagina. This is usually light and recedes after taking the medicine for several months.
Other common side effects include headaches, nausea, upset stomach, dizziness and rashes. These symptoms can usually be treated with over-the-counter remedies such as pain relievers or skin creams.
Eating light, frequent meals can help to reduce nausea.
What serious side effects does Tibolone use pose a risk?
If you should notice yellowing of the skin or eyes, swelling of the legs, sudden chest pain or shortness of breath, consult your physician or emergency help immediately.
These symptoms indicate liver failure and possible blood clot. Both situations can be life threatening if left untreated, so immediate medical intervention is necessary.
Contraindications
Patients who are pregnant, have a history of breast, uterine, ovarian or endometrial cancers, are diabetic, have gall bladder, kidney or liver disease, have blood clotting disorders or DVT, a history of strokes or heart attacks, or have epilepsy, should not use Tibolone.
Consult with your physician to determine the possible benefits and risks associated with the use of Tibolone in your own situation.

If you are considering veneers, you will probably be offered two choices by your dentist: resin or ceramic. While most dentists will recommend ceramic because of the many advantages associated with this type of veneer, you should carefully compare the pros and cons of each type before you make a final decision.
Instructions
1. Think about durability. Ceramic or porcelain veneers need little to no attention for at least 10 years (sometimes 15 years) after being bonded to your teeth. Resin veneers, on the other hand, can chip or break, will stain more easily and may require touch-ups if you experience cavities or need dental treatment.
2. Consider the cost. This may be one of the first things you need to compare, as ceramic veneers are 5 to 10 times more expensive than resin veneers. Keep in mind, however, that ceramic veneers require less aftercare, so you may be able to make up for the price difference in the long run.
3. Keep in mind that resin veneers do not look exactly like real teeth. Ceramic veneers, on the other hand, reflect light in the same way as natural teeth, so the overall look is much more natural. Resin veneers are fine for back teeth, especially in the top of your mouth, while ceramic veneers are a much better choice for front teeth.
4. Consider the time invested. Ceramic veneers require several visits to the dentist for measuring, molding and fitting. If your teeth are not in perfect condition, you will need to undergo extensive cleaning (scaling), gum treatment and/or cavity repair before you can have the ceramic veneers implanted.
5. Talk to a cosmetic dentist who specializes in implants, especially veneers. While all dentists are qualified to give you general information, a specialist will be able to show you before and after photos and give you detailed information about your particular needs and what to expect after the veneers are in place.
Whether you call them grills, fronts or grillz, dental jewelry is the hottest accessory around. Nelly wears grillz to sing about wearing grillz, and everybody-girls and guys, from the rhythm-challenged to the rap stars-wants mouth bling. Here's keep smiling while you care for your grills and the mouth they decorate.
Instructions
Start Off Right
1. Get your dental health checked out. Make sure your teeth and gums are in good shape. Wearing grills on decayed, crooked teeth or puffy gums will be murder on your look as well as your mouth.
2. Buy the best bling you can afford. Choose gold, platinum or silver for the base. Cheaper metals may contain allergy-triggering nickel, and will discolor easily and taste awful. (Plastic, needless to say, is strictly for one night of trick-or-treat.) Be sure any jewels, real or faux, are attached firmly, and all windows and edges are smooth.
3. Match your grills to your mouth. Your grills and your smile will last longer if you have your fronts professionally fitted. Have your dentist or your jeweler make a dental-quality mold. It's a messy process, but worth it. Or use the kit that comes with good mail-order grills; you bite into a silicon bar to make an impression of your teeth, mail it back to the vendor and get your grills made to fit in a couple of weeks.
4. Choose only removable grills. If you want 24/7 dental bling, have your dentist make gold implants. Grills are a dental accessory, not a replacement. You wouldn't glue a purse to your wrist or shades to your eyes, so don't even think about gluing your grills to your teeth.
Keep Your Grills (and Your Smile) Gleaming
5. Remove your grills frequently-and always before you eat. Give your mouth and your bling a break.
6. Brush your teeth, floss and rinse your mouth after you remove your grills and before you insert them. Even the best-fitting fronts leave room to trap food particles and bacteria, promoting plaque, tooth and gum decay and (yuck) major bad breath. You don't want to spend all that money on flash only to turn people off.
7. Clean your grills every time you wear them-at least once a day for prolonged wear. Use only a solution of mild dishwashing liquid in cool water. Slosh them around in the soapy water, and gently loosen any debris with a very soft toothbrush. Rinse your grills thoroughly and buff them dry with a soft cloth.
8. Store your grills in the box they came in or in an airtight plastic container. Be sure your fronts are clean and dry before storing them.

A condition caused by excessive buildup of mucus within the respiratory tract, bronchiectasis causes blockages in the respiratory airways. This blockage makes the airways enlarge and stretch. As time passes a respiratory infection develops due to the excessive mucus.
Instructions
1. Get a referral to a pulmonologist, a doctor who treats lung disorders. Make a list of questions that you want to ask the doctor about best care for yourself while dealing with this disorder.
2. Take breathing treatments with medications called bronchodilators. These medications help to open the breathing airways. Use either a nebulizer or an inhaler to administer these treatments. Steroidal medications also help to reduce any swelling of the respiratory airways.
3. Ask your doctor to prescribe medications such as expectorants and mucus thinners. These help clear and loosen any mucus in your lungs.
4. Seek additional help from a respiratory therapist. The therapist may perform chest physical therapy involving a vigorous clapping on the chest and back to help dislodge mucus in the lungs.
5. Understand that if you have severe bronchiectasis, your doctor may advise you to have surgery such as a lung volume reduction to remove small areas of damaged lung tissue. This may help to prevent reoccurrences.
6. Learn what you can do to prevent flareups of bronchiectasis. This can include lifestyle changes, medication usage and regular exercise.
Vitamin B12 is a vital nutrient that is usually obtained from dietary sources such as meat, milk and eggs. It is an essential part of a healthy diet. When this vitamin cannot be obtained in sufficient amounts from food sources, B12 supplements can be taken to increase the individual's intake levels. Vitamin B12 supplements are also used therapeutically, often in the form of a B12 shot.
Treating Symptoms of Shaky Leg Syndrome
According to the National Institutes of Health, preliminary research shows that an injectable form of vitamin B12, called cyanocobalamin, may help to relieve symptoms of Shaky Leg Syndrome (orthostatic tremor). This finding may be supported by a case study in Madrid, Spain, involving a 68-year-old man who suffered from the syndrome. The patient's doctor credited B12 injections for the elimination of the patient's tremors.
Alleviating Vitamin B12 Deficiency
Vitamin B12 shots are prescribed to treat patients who suffer from a vitamin B12 deficiency. This condition commonly results from an insufficient intake of the vitamin from food sources, and from poor B12 absorption into the body. Strict vegetarians who eat no meat as well as people over the age of 80 are at the highest risk of suffering a B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 shots help to correct the deficiency by increasing and normalizing the levels of B12 in the body.
Treatment of Pernicious Anemia
A lifelong condition referred to as pernicious anemia is commonly treated using B12 injections. This condition results when the body is unable to absorb vitamin B12 from the patient's gastrointestinal tract, due to a lack of a protein compound called "Intrinsic Factor." Vitamin B12 needs to bind with this compound in order to be absorbed and utilized by the body.
Pharmacological Treatment
According to an editorial by the Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients, vitamin B12 shots are the preferred treatment option when the vitamin is used for pharmacological purposes. This includes the use of vitamin B12 in the treatment of Bell's palsy, fatigue, asthma and diabetic neuropathy. The editorial cites clinical observations that oral doses are not as effective as B12 shots in treating these conditions.
Malabsorption Syndrome
When the patient suffers from a malabsorption syndrome, the body is unable to absorb vitamin B12 from food or oral supplements. In this case, B12 shots are used treat and prevent a B12 deficiency. The shots deliver the vitamin directly into the patients system.

Hearing ringing, buzzing, or other noises in your ears is known as tinnitus. While it's not unusual to occasionally experience mild tinnitus, some people experience recurring, severe tinnitus that interferes with their daily life. Although doctors can't always find a cause for a person's tinnitus, there are a number of conditions and situations that often lead to tinnitus.
Hearing Loss
One of the most common causes of tinnitus is age-related hearing loss. As we age, our hearing gradually declines, and in many cases this decline is accompanied by tinnitus. Although scientists aren't sure why hearing loss can lead to tinnitus, one theory is that damaged cells in the inner ear occasionally misfire, sending random electrical signals to the brain and causing you to hear sounds that aren't there.
Ear Infections
Ear infections often cause people to hear ringing or buzzing in their ears. These sounds generally go away after the ear infection clears up.
Earwax
Tinnitus can also be caused by a buildup of earwax. Although the ear canal is usually self-cleaning, earwax can sometimes become impacted, creating a blockage of the ear canal. Such a blockage can cause you to hear noises in your ear. Once the earwax is removed, the tinnitus usually disappears.
Loud Noises
Attending a rock concert or visiting a noisy construction site can cause temporary tinnitus. Long-term exposure to excessive noise often results in both permanent hearing damage and tinnitus. According to "The New Yorker," close to half of the American soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan are affected by tinnitus as a result of the loud noises they encounter in combat.
Medications
Many medications can cause you to experience ringing or buzzing in your ears. The severity of these sounds usually increases with higher doses of medication. Some medications that can cause tinnitus include certain antibiotics, some cancer medications and high doses of aspirin. Your tinnitus will most likely subside if you stop taking the medication in question.
Seeking Help
If the ringing and buzzing in your ears becomes more frequent or prolonged, make an appointment to see your doctor. She will examine your ears and try to discover the cause of your tinnitus. If your tinnitus is not the result of a condition that is easily treatable, your doctor can help you find ways to live with your tinnitus. Common treatments include medication, hearing aids and maskers.

In performing any qigong (also spelled chi gong) exercise, it is important to remember to breathe deeply, slowly and continuously. Don't hold your breath. Don't pant. Let the air move into the bottom of your lungs to clear out stagnant chi. Let the air seem to permeate your entire body so it feels like you are breathing through your pores.
Qigong exercises need to be done in a relaxed state, as tension also blocks the movement of chi---so try to empty your mind of busy thoughts. Too much thinking will use up the energy you are trying to cultivate.
Warm-Up Exercise
Stand with your feet comfortably apart, knees softly flexed. Relax your arms at the shoulders. Gently swing from side to side. In swinging to one side, your knees will bend deeper; on reaching the side as far as you can twist, your knees should straighten again, but not to a locked position.
While swinging, swing your arms loosely so that one arm swings behind, tapping the opposite hip while the other arm swings up and across the body, tapping the opposite shoulder. So in swinging to the right side, the right arm swings behind and the left arm swings up and across.
Now repeat the swing to the opposite side, remembering to bend and straighten the knees. This will generate energy and help it to flow throughout the body. The light taps are to stimulate meridian points.
Stretch & Pull for Balance
Stand on your left leg and reach straight up, stretching as high as you can with your left arm while your right arm hangs by your side. In pulling up, pull up also with the right hip, so that your right foot comes off the ground slightly. Hold the foot flat---raised but parallel to the floor.
While standing this way, gently rotate or twist on your left hip so your right foot is swinging slightly over the floor. Swing/twist right and left a few times. Then switch sides and repeat while standing on your right. This will pull the energy up from the floor into your leg and up through your body. The slight motion will help strengthen the hip and work on your balance.
Kidney Cleansing
This exercise pulls energy up through your feet and up your legs, and circulates it through the kidneys and back out. Stand with your feet apart. Bend over and reach with both hands to your left inside ankle. Touching your ankle, slide your hands up the inside of your leg. Bring them across the stomach and over and around the right hip to the back, kidney area. Now continue sliding your hands down the back side of your right leg. At the ankle, slide your hands across your foot to your inside ankle.
Now repeat in reverse, sliding your hands up your right inner leg, across your stomach, back around your hip and down the outside of your left leg. Finish the circuit at your inside left ankle. Repeat this circuit nine times.

If you suffer from acne rosacea--a skin condition that causes red rashes or pustules to appear around the cheeks nose, chin and forehead--there are medications that can be prescribed by a dermatologist to help keep it under control. However, if it is not a severe case of acne rosacea there is also a natural and easy way to cure it just by drinking juice.
Why can juice help acne rosacea?
Spicy foods, foods high in caffeine or foods high in sugar can cause acne rosacea. These foods can cause redness or breakouts because these foods can dilate blood vessels or increase hormone levels, which can cause oil glands to secrete oil that clogs pores. Drinking natural juice can quickly and effectively minimize these effects because it pumps vitamins, minerals, enzymes and citric acid quickly into your blood stream. Drinking juice can cleanse your body of toxins, balance the pH levels in your body, unclog pores and eliminate free radicals from your system.
If you suffer from acne rosacea you should try to drink at least 2 glasses of juice a day. You should also drink plenty of water to flush out your system. The recommended amount is eight glasses a day. Try to use organic fruit if you decide to make your juice because it will contain more minerals, vitamins and live enzymes. If you decide to buy juice, then purchase the organic juice at retailers such as Whole Foods or Trader Joe's.
What juices can cure acne rosacea?
One of the best juices to drink is lemon juice. Lemon juice is high in vitamin C, which acts as an antioxidant. Combined with water it will flush toxins out of the body due to the high level of citric acid.
Drinking cucumber juice will also reduce redness caused by acne rosacea. Cucumber is high in alkaline minerals and full of water so it calms and cools the redness of the skin quickly.
Cherry juice is also great for curing acne because it is rich in vitamin A, vitamin C and minerals that remove toxins from the blood. Apple juice, orange juice, apricot juice, melon juice and grapefruit juice also contain a large amount of vitamins and minerals that act as antioxidants that will cleanse the intestine, liver, and exfoliate your skin.

The aorta is the largest artery in the body, running from the heart down the back of the body and distributing great quantities of blood to smaller vessels throughout the body. An aortic aneurysm is a dangerous bulging and burst of the aorta vessel's membrane. If an aneurysm forms, the body loses blood quickly, and emergency services are needed immediately to avoid death. If an aneurysm rupture, a massive loss of internal bleeding occurs, requiring immediate medical attention.
Abdominal Pulsing
For patients who have aortic aneurysms growing in the abdominal area, an increased pulse can be felt near the naval. There is usually associated abdominal pain and tenderness in the naval area.
Back Pain
Because the aorta runs along the back, the pain is inappropriately associated with typical back pain.
Loss of Blood Flow to Extremities
Because the aorta feeds the major vessels in the arms and legs, numbness and swelling occurs in those parts of the body.
Shortness of Breath
Blood loss to the lungs or heart affects breathing. Patients with aortic aneurysms may feel fatigue, dizziness and have trouble breathing.
Pain
Pain is a sign that the aneurysm has ruptured. Pain in the extremities, back or abdomen is a sign of rupture, and emergency services are needed immediately. The heart will compensate for a drop in pressure by increasing its beat. Accordingly, a rapid pulse will be a tell-tale sign of a ruptured aneurysm.

Several studies have been conducted on the effects of the spice turmeric, which is found in curry powders and is a coloring additive in foods such as prepared mustard and canned chicken broth. The documented health complications on the overuse of the spice are unclear. Side effects of the spice, whether used as a dietary supplement, or used during cooking, have been reported. Although it is believed that turmeric is a safe spice when used in moderation, precautions should be taken if there are current health complications. Turmeric may also interfere with certain medications, rendering them ineffective.
Risk of Bleeding
The compounds in turmeric may cause thinning of the blood. Turmeric should not be taken by a person who has a bleeding disorder. Turmeric should not be taken by a person who is taking a blood-thinning agent to reduce clotting. If turmeric is taken, it may amplify those conditions, which could lead to serious blood loss internally and externally.
Skin Irritations/Allergies
If turmeric comes into direct contact with the skin, it could cause irritation in the form of a rash, swelling, and redness. The degree of seriousness would depend on the sensitivity of the skin and the possible allergic reaction that may incur.
If you are sensitive to turmeric, it is advised you refrain from direct contact with curry powder, of which turmeric is a main ingredient. Other foods that may contain turmeric as a preservative and coloring agent are yellow mustard, pickles, canned chicken broth, and relishes.
Gastrointestinal Problems
Although turmeric has long been used as an herbal remedy for digestive problems, too much turmeric, whether taken as a dietary supplement or when used frequently in cooking, may cause severe gastrointestinal problems in some people. These problems could consist of vomiting and diarrhea, which could lead to dehydration. Turmeric also has the potential to cause ulcers and inflammation of the stomach lining. Signs of possible gastrointestinal problems caused from too much turmeric may also include black tarry stools or bright red blood in the stool. Those symptoms would be signs of gastrointestinal bleeding.
Pregnancy Problems
During pregnancy, women should not take turmeric. Turmeric may cause complications such as stomach distress and ulcers. Also, if taking turmeric during pregnancy, complications could arise that may lead to excessive bleeding during the birthing process.
Heart Disease
If you are at risk for heart disease, or currently have a heart disease, too much turmeric could be a danger to your health. The curcumin in turmeric activates a gene called p53. That gene has been found to deactivate damaged cells in the heart. When that happens, the cell will stop functioning completely.
Supplements are not Medications
Turmeric is a spice used in cooking, and it is also used as a dietary supplement. Turmeric is not a medication. As a supplement, it can be marketed without proof that it is either safe or beneficial. Due to the lack of studies that have been done on turmeric, it is not known what side effects may be referred to as common, rare, or serious. If you are taking turmeric as a supplement and are experiencing abnormal symptoms, you should consult your physician.
Turmeric Dosage Studies
Medline Plus, a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health, have reported the dosage used in the studies that have been done on turmeric. This report can be found at, www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/patient-turmeric.html.
Medline Plus also cautions that, "The doses are based on scientific research, publications, traditional use, or expert opinion. Many herbs and supplements have not been thoroughly tested, and safety tested, and effectiveness may not be proven. Brands may be made differently, with variable ingredients, even within the same brand, The doses may not apply to all products, You should read product labels, and discuss doses with a qualified healthcare provider before starting therapy."

Purines are found in almost all foods, but some types of food have much higher levels than others. Some individuals need to watch their intake of purines because of elevated levels of uric acid, which can lead to gout and other health problems.
Organ Meats
Organ meats such as liver, heart, kidney and sweetbreads contain high levels of purine, whether they come from beef, pork or poultry.
Seafood and Fish
Anchovies, sardines, salmon, herring, mackerel, clams and squid contain high levels of purine, whether they are fresh or canned.
Beans
Beans also contain purine. Green and black-eyed peas, lentils, kidney, lima, and navy beans have the highest levels.
Meat
Beef, pork, bacon and lamb have the highest levels of purine in the meat category, although all protein foods contain somewhat high levels of purine. Meat broth, stock and gravy can have high levels of purine as well.
Vegetables
The vegetables with the highest purine levels include asparagus, cauliflower, mushrooms and spinach.
Drinks
Alcoholic drinks made with yeast such as beer, lager and ale are high in purine.

Stupor Depressions, widely known as Depressive Stupors, are common in the psychiatric world. There can be many reasons for their onset, such as medicine dosage, severe depression, and psychosomatic causes. Though they may be frightening, patients usually come out of them with no ill effects. The basic concern of families and hospitals is keeping the sufferer in a safe place. During the stupor the person may be conscious, unconscious, or in a sleep-like state, unable to be roused easily. Gross and fine motor skills, if any, are greatly decreased in the patient and every aspect of the body slows down.
Stupor Types
The psychiatric world recognizes two kinds of stupors: benign and malignant. Benign stupors occur abruptly and pass abruptly. The patient usually comes out of a benign stupor. On the other hand, malignant stupors are not guaranteed to simply stop, and they last for a greatly lengthened amount of time.
Medications
Stupors may be caused by conflicting medicines taken by the patient or by an overdose of one medication. Usually patients are on more than one drug at a time and not just a simple antidepressant. Most antidepressants cause drowsiness and impairment by themselves. If the patient is on a hypnotic, sedative, or tranquilizer in addition, then he may go into a stupor, unable to move, falling in and out of a deep sleep. The patient will have little response to outside stimuli and, if roused from the sleep-like stupor, he will immediately go back to that frozen state.
Psychosomatic Reasons
Psychosomatics is the study of the effect of the mind on the body. If a person becomes severely or clinically depressed, his motor skills will slow and he will move or talk slowly and isolate himself to one place, perhaps his bed, and stay there for several hours or a whole day. Major depression can put a halt to all activities, leaving the person numb to stimuli and emotion, simply existing in a state in which his mind is empty and his world is severely limited. In response to this grand-scale depression, the body will begin to shut down; the patient may cease taking food, talking, feeling emotion, or reacting physically to any outside stimulus.
New Events
New events in a person's life, even positive ones, can send a depressed person into a tailspin that marks the beginning a new strong and lengthy depression. This depression may produce a stupor-like state in which the person is isolated, hardly moves, and begins to talk and think very slowly. He will have no interest in activities or hobbies or in interacting with people but will simply remain frozen in his state for days or perhaps longer.
Conclusion
Since depressive stupors are benign and not malignant, the patient will eventually recover. From the standpoint of friends and family, this is good news. Aside from trying to provide patient support and comfort, there is little one can do to stop the stupor or rouse the person out of it. Eventually the person will come out of the troubled state and begin to slowly interact and take some interest in things again. If the condition seems to last too long, it is, of course, wise to consult a doctor or a therapist.

Minor burns are a fact of life. Whether it’s accidentally touching the kitchen stove, the heating element of the hair dryer or styling iron, or getting too close to a match flame, that telltale “ouch” warns that you’ve been burned.Essential oils can be used to treat minor burns. In fact, one of the pioneers of aromatherapy and the use of essential oils for healing purposes first discovered their potential properties when he was burned while working in a lab.
Instructions
1. Choose 100% pure essential oil-only these offer healthful benefits. The label will state "100% pure." You can find them at health food stores and online. Don’t use synthetic oils. They do not have the same benefits.
2. Select lavender as the best oil for treating minor burns. Lavender is soothing and helps to heal the damaged skin.
3. Run the burn under cold water for a couple of minutes, if possible, to help remove heat. Then dab a drop of the lavender oil directly on the burn. Make sure the oil covers the entire burn area.
4. Wait a few minutes until the oil has dried before touching the area. If necessary, you can put a drop of lavender oil on the gauze patch of a band-aid and put that over the burn to both protect the spot and enhance the healing process.
5. Reapply the lavender oil 2 to 3 times a day until the burn mark starts to heal.
Sperm plays a vital role in creating a new life. Having a high sperm count is important for any male looking to procreate. Sometimes, however, a man will have a lower sperm count than normal. Luckily, there are ways to increase sperm count.
Ejaculation Period
Some men ejaculate too often to keep up a natural and normal sperm count. If you want to begin raising your sperm count wait at least three days between every ejaculation in order for the body to build up its sperm count.
Vitamin C
One all natural remedy for increasing sperm count is to add more vitamin C to your diet in the form of a supplement. A study by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences shows that vitamin C protects sperm from oxidative damage. It also prevents individual sperm from sticking to each other and causing infertility.
Exercise
One easy and healthy remedy for increasing sperm count is to exercise regularly, preferably every day. Keeping active and healthy increases sperm production. So does keeping the rest of the body functions going at optimum levels.
Zinc
One of the reasons why men sometimes have a low sperm count is because of zinc deficiency. In the journal "Fertility and Sterility," a study was published stating that zinc supplements will help increase sperm count.
Vitamin E
A study in "International Journal of Fertility" states that vitamin E supplements are another remedy for increasing sperm count. This is because a deficiency of the nutrient is known to contribute to infertility.
As part of their natural defenses, spiders possess the ability to bite. When a spider feels threatened by a human it may bite. While most spider bites are harmless and barely noticed, around one percent of all spider bites can result in everything from major irritations to fatality.
Considerations
Spiders are predators that consume other animals. When a spider bites its prey, it injects venom into the victim's body to either paralyze or kill it. While most spider venom is not harmful to people, there are a few species of spiders with venom powerful enough to affect the human body. Spiders possess fangs, equivalent to hypodermic needles, that inject venom into the flesh of the victim. However, the majority of spiders do not have fangs even capable of piercing human skin. Spiders can generally control the amount of venom delivered through the fangs, using a little to subdue a small insect or as much as possible when defending itself from a human threat. Usually, spiders bite humans when they are stepped on, brushed up against, or trapped inside clothing near the skin.
Types
There are several types of spiders that have been identified with the ability to deliver painful and dangerous spider bites to humans. Among the most well-known are the Australian venomous funnel-web spiders, tangle-web spiders, black widow spiders, brown house spiders, recluse spiders, six-eyed sand spiders, mouse spiders, true tarantulas, yellow sac spiders, huntsman spiders and the redback jumping spiders.
Effects
When a spider bites a human, the biggest concern is how the venom will affect the body. The effects are dependent on the type of spider venom: necrotic or neurotoxic. Necrotic venom works to destroy the tissue surrounding the bite area and attack vital organs. Symptoms include severe lesions, nausea, vomiting and muscle pain as the venom creates severe systemic reactions and sometimes death. Neurotoxic venom affects the nervious system and slowly renders vital systems inoperable. Symptoms include trouble breathing, severe abdominal cramps, dizziness and sometimes death.
Significance
treating a venomous spider bite depends on the type of spider involved. Medical experts cannot identify the type of spider from the bite alone or from the symptoms the victim experiences. Minor bites can be treated with topical antiseptics and ice to relieve inflammation. Neurotoxic spider bites can be treated by medical professionals using various techniques to treat the symptoms, such as antibiotics and antivenom. For less severe necrotic bites, there is little that medical personnel can do beyond elevation, immobilization and the application of antihistamines and antivenom. Severe symptoms may use a medicine called dapsone, nytroglicerine patches, vasodilation and antivenom.
Misconceptions
Many people fear that receiving a spider bite means instant and painful death, when in reality even the most venomous spider bites will take several hours to kill a healthy adult. As long as the victim receives proper medical attention, they can expect a full, if painful, recovery. Those most likely to die from venomous spider bites are very small children or those in remote locations too far away to receive medical help. Also, remember that spiders are not poisonous; they are venomous.

Diabetes increases a person's risk of heart damage, blindness and the chance of foot problems. This disease also causes never damage as an additional complication. A person who suffers from diabetes can prevent nerve damage by monitoring his condition closely and following the instructions of his doctor.
What Causes Nerve Damage
Prolonged exposure to high levels of glucose in the bloodstream is the most common cause of nerve damage in diabetes patients. This simple sugar causes damage to the nerve coatings if a person's blood sugar levels remain too high.
Symptoms of Diabetic Nerve Damage
A person with nerve damage may not experience any symptoms. Other people will experience minor pain, tingling and numbness in the affected area. The pain increases as the nerve damage worsens. Nausea, diarrhea and dizziness may accompany these symptoms depending on which part of the nervousness gets infected. Some people may experience light-headedness when standing up.
Commonly Affected Areas
Diabetics can suffer problems with the nerves in the eyes, arms, legs, feet and bowels. Diabetes causes focal, autonomic, peripheral and proximal nerve damage. These damages affect the eye, the digestive tract and the sexual organs, and the legs. The final type refers to a sudden loss of feeling in a group of muscles. Damage to the reproductive organs may cause impotence.
Be Tested for Nerve Damage
Because nerve damage does not always present itself through symptoms or symptoms, it may show up slowly, diabetics should undergo regular testing to determine if they have suffered any nerve damage. This alerts physicians and patients to potential problems. Eye exams can determine any eye problems.
Preventing Diabetic Nerve Damage
The most important part of preventing damage is for a diabetic to keep his blood glucose levels low. Frequent checks of blood sugar can help a diabetic make any necessary dietary modifications. Implementing a regular exercise program helps prevent damage to the nerves in the feet and muscles.
