Read A Balance Beam Scale

You have likely been there before: standing on the balance beam scale in your doctor's office. You might have even seen people using them at your gym. If you have ever wondered how the nurse or your fellow gym goers read those bars so quickly, you can now learn the method yourself. Following these steps will allow you to read the balance beam scale with ease on your own.

Instructions

1. Stand on the scale. The balance beams will drop down below the arrow on the right.

2. Adjust the weights on the scale to larger numbers. Move the largest one to the 100-lb. notch. Most healthy adults are at least 100 lbs. When you moved the weight, the bar on the balance beam rose closer to the arrow.

3. Adjust the 10's bar by moving it to the right until the beam rises above the level of the arrow. When the bar is pointing above the arrow on the right side, you have added too much weight. Move the 10's weight back until the bar is centered on the arrow.

4. Read the number that the 100's weight is on. Add this to the number that the smallest weight is on. That is your final weight.
