Thinning Hair Remedies For Females

Thinning Hair Remedies for Women

Although thinning hair is most commonly associated with men, many women can actually experience a significant amount of hair loss and thinning. Women can suffer from thinning hair for a variety of reasons, but can most often lose their hair from a hormonal condition, such as thyroid disease. Luckily, there are ways to help stop hair thinning, and even start to regrow new hair.

Decreasing Hair Washing

Women generally wash their hair more frequently than men do, which can contribute greatly to producing hair that is more brittle, dry and fragile. Constant hair washing strips off the hair's natural oils, which can make the hair appear clean, but can also damage and dry the hair. When the hair breaks off or becomes fragile, it appears thinner and not as full. One way to prevent this is to reduce the frequency of hair washings to every three days. After the second day, the scalp will produce oils that can be redistributed down the hair shafts. This can be done by brushing the hair with a boar bristle hairbrush, starting at the roots of the hair and brushing with long strokes down to the ends. Continue brushing the hair in this manner for at least 10 minutes.

Increasing Scalp Circulation

A decrease in blood circulation to the scalp can cause hair follicles to become dormant. This can cause thinner and finer hair, and can even result in baldness in women. This can be alleviated by stimulating the scalp in order to increase blood flow to the follicles. Doing so will wake up the follicles, and can make them start to produce hair again. Scalp stimulation can be done in a variety of ways, including using the fingertips or a prong hairbrush to massage the scalp, or by using a vibrating massager on the scalp.

Increasing Intake of Certain Vitamins

Many times, hair loss and thinning hair can be caused by a nutritional deficiency. By increasing your intake of certain vitamins, namely vitamin B6, or Biotin, your hair's volume and thickness can be increased. Vitamin B6 works to activate the production of hair cells, helping your hair to not only become stronger, but to grow faster as well. You can find vitamin B6 at any vitamin or health food store, and can take it as an individual supplement, in combination with the other B vitamins or in a multivitamin complex. It is always advisable to consult your doctor about the appropriate vitamin B6 dosage for you.
