Certification
To become certified as a laser therapist, candidates can pursue certification through groups such as the National Council on Laser Excellence (NCLE). Prospective therapists must compete an accredited training program and meet practical experience requirements. Two-year training courses are offered by technical schools, two-year associate's degrees or four year degrees in a subject such as vacuum technology and optics can also be completed to train as a laser technician.
Uses
Laser therapies can be used for pain relief and cosmetic purposes. Because of the medical uses of laser therapy, some training programs restrict their intake of new students to licensed nurses and cosmetologists. Dedicated courses in laser therapist applications cost from less than $1,000 to about $9,000, dependent on the type of course completed.
