A 2100 Calorie Diabetic Meal Plan

Diabetes can effect all different age levels and can be very serious if it is not handled properly. Taking in the proper amount of calories makes living with diabetes much easier. Using a 2,100-calorie diet plan is very beneficial for many people living with diabetes. Here are three different options of diets that should get you about 2,100 calories per day. The meal plans are broken into six sections: starch/bread, fruit, vegetable, milk/dairy, meat/protein and fat.

High Dairy and Low Fat

The first diet plan consists of two and a half servings of milk, 10 starch/bread servings, five fruit servings, three vegetable servings, eight meat/protein servings and five fat servings. Some examples of starches would be bran cereals, pasta, rice and English muffins. Generally, lean pork and chicken are a diabetic's best choice when it comes to meats and poultry. Fats are sometimes tricky. Limiting saturated fats is key. Some examples of foods high in unsaturated fats are avocados, nuts and seeds, olives and tahini paste.

Higher Fat and Lower Dairy

The next plan calls for one serving of milk and 11 servings of starch/breads. The rest of the diet plan is the same as the first with five fruit servings, three vegetable servings, eight meat/protein servings and five fat servings. The last plan has only a 1/2 serving of milk with six fat servings. Round off your caloric intake with 11 servings of starch/breads, six fruits, four veggies and eight meat/protein servings.

Keep It Interesting

The key with these diets is to keep it interesting as there are many different foods you can enjoy within the guidelines of these plans. Keeping to these diet plans will increasingly become easier once you begin to get used to what you can eat and what you cannot.
