We rely on our feet so much that it’s sometimes only when they don’t work right that we stop taking them for granted. Heel and arch pain in the foot causes both pleasurable and necessary activities alike to become nightmares. Instead, a sufferer would prefer to remain stationary and inactive instead of bearing the pain.
Instructions
Prevent Heel and Arch Pain
1. Buy shoes that properly support the foot. All too often heel and arch pain is needlessly caused by wearing shoes that poorly support the insole and foot-bed of the foot. Paying a little more for a comfortable shoe is a worthwhile investment. Try on several pairs of shoes the next time you go shopping. It will be obvious which pair supports your feet the most.
2. Purchase insoles to insert in your shoes. There are many different brands of insoles with different levels of padding and support to choose from. Try a few of these out by squeezing them. They are relatively inexpensive, so this may be a cost effective solution. A link to a site where you can browse for insoles is posted below.
3. Be mindful of your weight. Obesity can cause a severe strain on the feet, particularly on the heel and arch of the foot that will bear the brunt of the stress. To avoid this, keep a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Since your feet will be giving you trouble, try exercises that remove stress from the foot such as rowing or riding a bike.
4. Observe your running style and take note if you are making any odd movements. If you are a runner, poor form in running can cause foot pain and pain in other parts of your body, such as your back. Try to make your movements as smooth as possible. Do not slam your feet into the ground.
5. Consult a podiatrist if you are beginning to feel constant foot pain. The problem may not be preventable. Some people are born with conditions, such as an improper arch to their foot, which may need medical intervention. If you suspect your foot is not normal or healthy, make an appointment right away.
