Use Essential Oil To Scent Your Lotion

Essential oil of lavender evokes the romance of the French countryside.

Aromatherapy and essential oils can bring comfort and balance to the mind, body and spirit. Essential oils, whether chosen for medicinal qualities or simply their pleasant scent, easily can be added to a high-quality unscented lotion that you can wear and benefit from everyday. When buying essential oils, be certain to purchase high-grade, pure oils for the best results.

Instructions

1. Select an unscented lotion and your favorite essential oil. These items typically are available at any quality health or natural foods store.

2. Pour the lotion into a clean glass bowl. The essential oil experts at www.naturesgift.com recommend beginning with a 1 percent solution. Just add 6 drops of essential oil for every 1 fluid ounce of lotion.

3. Mix well, and apply a small amount of the newly-scented lotion to the inside of your arm near the elbow. If you are happy with the scent, you are finished. If not, increase the amount of essential oil by adding another 3 drops per 1 ounce of lotion, mix and sample until you are satisfied. Remember that the scent of an essential oil grows stronger as it warms while you wear it. Maintain the recommended oil to lotion ratio no matter how many different scents you are combining.

4. Record the final recipe so that you can duplicate the scent in the future.

5. Use a funnel and spatula to put your new lotion back into its original bottle provided the bottle is reusable. Wash and dry a new bottle or several smaller bottles if you are giving your personalized lotion as gifts. Apply a label to identify the product and scent.
