Stain Concrete Pavers

Concrete pavers are a practical and attractive building material for patios, porches and walkways. Typically, you can purchase these pavers in concrete gray or stained red tones; however, using concrete stain or tinted sealer, you can create a one-of-a-kind design in your lawn or garden. Many concrete stains are acid based, permanently coloring the concrete. New options include concrete dyes and water-based stains, for a wider range of colors and easier application. Stain your own concrete pavers with this simple water-based formula.

Instructions

1. Start with light gray concrete pavers in the size and shape you prefer for your patio. Choose colors for your concrete stain that will coordinate with your home and garden.

2. Lay out your concrete pavers on a drop cloth. Be sure that you have enough pavers for your entire patio or walkway project. Use new pavers, rather than reusing old ones, if you want to stain concrete pavers.

3. Apply two coats of untinted concrete sealer to your concrete pavers. Allow the sealer to dry completely before continuing the process of staining concrete.

4. Mix equal parts of water, concrete sealer and tinted exterior paint in a large tub or paint bucket. Apply this stain to the concrete pavers using a paint sprayer for an even finish on your concrete pavers. Allow the pavers to dry. Paint on a second coat of color if desired.

5. Seal with two coats of concrete sealer, allowing it to dry between coats.

6. Repeat these steps with other paint colors to create a beautiful patio or walkway using basic and affordable concrete pavers. Lay stained concrete pavers in a solid color, or create designs using different colors after staining concrete pavers.

Tips Warnings

Acid-based stain is more durable, but less suitable as a DIY project.
