How to install bathroom ceiling fanlight heater in suspended ceiling

install bathroom ceiling fan/light heater in suspended ceiling

I have been spending the last year working on finishing my basement. We have installed a small powder room and had most of the plumbing done by a reputable contractor. We also had him supply and install a light/fan/heat unit for the bathroom. The problem I am running into now that the suspended ceiling is in is that the unit that was installed barely extends down below the joists in the ceiling. The suspended ceiling is about 4 inches lower. The unit does not appear to have any way to extend it down from the joists. I have not been able to find any information online about installing this type of unit. Are there normally specially designed units that are made for a suspended ceiling? (This was the case for a couple of recessed lighting fixtures we put in). Is there a preferred method for installing something like this over a suspended ceiling? Any help would be greatly appreciated. We normally install them TO the suspended ceiling. Take it loose from the joists, spread the hanger bars all the way out so they span across two main runners. Tie wire the bars to the runners with (what else?) tie wire - they type sold in the concrete accessories department for tie-wiring rebar. If the hanger bars aren't long enough, you can get extra long hanger bars for the purpose - check with an electrical supply house or e-mail the manufacturer. Install a piece of ceiling wire (heavier than tie wire - get it in the suspended ceiling department) from the fan to a ceiling joist. It's a bit of extra protection in case of an earthquake, etc.
