There are many scholarships available for working mothers.


Working mothers have a variety of scholarship and grant opportunities if they wish to go back to school. Financial awards are offered by schools, non-profit organizations, charities, corporations and local, state and federal governments. There are three basic types of educational grants: scholarships for particular majors or areas of study, merit-based grants and need-based awards.

Qualified applicants must have a net household income of less than $100,000 and must have at least one dependent minor child. Mothers must write an essay detailing any challenges they have faced as a mother going back to school. The award amount is generally $1,000 per academic year.

Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship


The Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship is available to a deserving female student by the Jeannette Rankin Foundation. Qualified applicants must be 35 or older, have minor children and be able to demonstrate proof of financial hardship. Applicants must also write an essay on the difficulties of being an older student returning to school and must outline their educational and career goals. The award amount is $500 to $4,000 per academic year.

Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation Scholarship


The Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation Scholarship is available to an outstanding mother attending college in the United States by the Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation. Qualified applicants must be 17 or older, enrolled full time in a college program, financially needy and have dependent minor children. Students must also write an essay detailing their future goals. The award amount is generally $2,000 per academic year.

Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship


The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship is available to a deserving single parent by the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund. Qualified applicants must be a single parent to at least one minor child, be low income, attend an accredited Arkansas college or university and demonstrate academic success. The award amount is $1,000 to $3,000 per academic year.
