Homemade Urinating Dog Repellent

Dog urine is not good for your grass.

Dogs make excellent pets, great companions and fun playmates. What they don't make is pleasant odors, especially when they urinate in your yard. Dog urine ruins grass and other yard plants, smells awful and encourages other dogs to do their business in your yard as well. The good news is that there are plenty of simple, inexpensive and effective ways to keep dogs away from your yard.

Instructions

1. Locate the spots dogs frequent most in your yard, especially the places where they urinate. Sprinkle chili pepper powder on the spots where dogs urinate, as the powder irritates their nose and discourages dogs from coming to that spot to urinate.

2. Soak a few cotton balls in ammonia, rubbing alcohol or vinegar, then drop the cotton balls in areas you want to keep dogs away from. The smell of ammonia, rubbing alcohol or vinegar is even stronger to a dog than it is to a human, and the smell is also unappealing to dogs. Never pour these liquids directly on the ground as either could harm plants.

3. Gather up your old citrus fruit peels (oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits) and scatter them on the ground in areas you want dogs to stay out of. Dogs find citrus smells unappealing.

4. Combine equal parts vinegar and lemon juice in a spray bottle and apply it to any area you want to repel dogs from. Remember to reapply the spray often for effectiveness.

5. Add several drops of dog-repelling essential oil to a spray bottle of water, then spray liberally onto any area you want dogs to avoid. Examples of essential oils dogs dislike include eucalyptus, cinnamon and sour apple.

Tips Warnings

Never spray or put these substances directly onto a dog, as they may cause serious harm to the dog's skin, eyes or respiratory system. Simply applying the spray to the areas you want dogs to stay away from will do the trick.
