Change the Battery in a Genie Intellicode
Your Genie Intellicode garage door opener uses wireless remote controls and keypads. When one of the controls stops working, it is probably due to a dead battery. Changing the batteries in your Genie Intellicode controls depends on which remote control you own. Genie has a light gray control and a black control. Access to the battery is different on each control. It is normally not necessary to reprogram the controls when replacing the batteries.
Instructions
Remote Controls
1. Locate and open the battery cover on the remote control. The gray remotes have a notch on the side of the remote. Insert a coin or small flat-head screwdriver in the notch to pry the cover off the remote control. The black remotes have a ribbed spot on the front of the remote. Place your thumb on the ribbed area and push the cover to the bottom of the remote. Flip the cover up to reveal the battery.
2. Remove the old battery from the remote control. Insert the new battery into the compartment, ensuring that you have the polarities pointing in the correct direction. The polarity symbols are imprinted in the bottom of the compartment.
3. Place the battery cover back over the remote and push the remote button to operate the opener.
Keypad
4. Flip open the keypad cover on your wireless keypad. Locate the battery compartment cover on the lower end of the keypad.
5. Slide the battery cover down with your thumb and remove the cover from the keypad.
6. Pull the old 9-volt battery out of the keypad and install the new battery. Place the battery cover over the battery compartment until it locks into place.
