Myers sewage pump not working

Myers sewage pump not working

I think my Myers sewage pump has pumped its last load. I have a sewage pit (Myers sr1830) in my basement and the pump isnt turning on. It removes the waste from a kitchenette, 3/4 bathroom and the washing machine. It expels the waste to our septic system. I checked to see if the float/switch was stuck but it is not. The pump was made in 2003. It has had a restricted flow in the past due to my daughter flushing baby wipes. I removed the clog and cleaned it when that happened, about a year ago, but I think it strained the pump and shortened its life. I will remove the pump to see if I can get it to turn on tomorrow but if not I will have to replace it. From what I can tell the replacement pump is a Myers SRM4. It has a .4hp/12 amp/115volt/65hertz motor. It handles 2 solids and has a 2 NPT discharge. Is the NPT national pipe thread? I am looking for an economical replacement because I have a limited amount of money to replace this pump. Could someone suggest an alternative manufacturer and pump model or am I better off sticking with the Myers? Can I reuse the one-way valve and stem at the discharge? Is that connection threaded at the pump? Or do I have to replace the stem and valve? Is there an average life span(under normal operation) for this pump? I should know more when I remove the pump but any help would be appreciated. Thanks Hi, Thats a very good pump. I myself would not skimp on the pump, but you do have to watch what goes down the toilet. I have seen rags and stuff jam up the impellers. Womens products and such. They do have overload protection and sometimes you can hear it buzzing/humming if its jammed. The discharrge can be reused. Its probably just a 2 male adapter screwed in. Just swap the pipe, dump it back in the hole, reconnect the check valve, and away you go. Not sure what it will cost to rebuild that pump, but I would look into it. This way you will have a spare on hand. Not sure who you have in your area, but we have a motor repair place local, and he repairs them for 1/2 of what new ould cost. But somtimes rebuilds are just as much. But not sure with these. Here is info, and possibly under warranty. http://www.myerspump.com/pdf/pdf.sse...l/25581a04.pdf Also when you took it apart last time did you leak the oil out by loosening the wrong screws? I like the liberty pumps myself, and is all I really use. Better warranty IMO, and cant say I have had issues with them. Liberty Pumps : Effluent Pumps Mike NJ Thanks for the response and info. I looked at my problem earlier and plugged the pump in without it being connected to the float and there was a vibration but the pit wasn't being cleared out. I thought this was promising so I removed the pump and looked at it outside and found feminine products blocking the inlet area. I cleared them out and put the pump in a 5gallon bucket with water, plugged it in and it pumped the water out of the bucket. I then tried to plug the float in and move it manually but the motor never turned on. I looked at the bottom of the pump while moving the float every direction and once or twice the motor moved about a quarter turn but that is it. My assumption is that I had 2 problems. the blockage and the float needs to be replaced. I am going to look up replacing the float. I can get a new one at the plumbing supply store for about $45. Is replacing the float straight forward or is it tricky? Is there anything I should look out for when replacing the float? Cant you plug the pump in directly without the switch? Usually the switch plugs in the wall and the pump plugs into the switch. Mike NJ Yeah - I looked at it after I posted and thought duh. I am getting a new float switch and removing the old one. Does that mean the pump works when plugged in directly???? Saved some money there huh??? The old white tailed mice always cause problems. I used to pull them out constantly on sewer calls. On one sewer job I had I pulled about 50 of them out of the sewer. They where all wrapped around the snake when I pulled it out. The women of the house swore up and down she never flushes them. When I showed them to her she had nothing to say. He husband did not look very happy about it either. Mike Good Lawd... white tailed mice... you crack me up... Least you didn't find any Coney Island White Eel skins. Lawrosa, if it wasn't for white mice, pads and baby wipes what would we do? Hand out carts at Walmart? LOL I was thinking of taking a picture of the Mice and the sewage pit with the waste water in it and printing a sign for that bathroom that has the pictures and reads TOILET PAPER ONLY! - Next time YOU are fixing IT!
