You can use string to make braided ankle bracelets.
Make ankle bracelets with braided string for yourself or to give as gifts. These bracelets are popular as friendship bracelets, and are often passed around among friends. They are simple and inexpensive to make, so they can be a good craft for children at camp or school. Mix and match a variety of string colors, or keep it simple with a plain colored string.
Instructions
1. Pick the color scheme of your ankle bracelet by choosing up to six different colors of string. You can also choose three different colors, or even just one color. Cut six pieces of string all the same length, about two feet.
2. Tape one end of all the six strings to a table or chair, but leave about two inches free on the other end of the tape. This is to hold the strings tightly in place while you are braiding them together to make the ankle bracelet. Separate the string into three sections, so that there are two strings to each section. Call these sections A, B and C.
3. Make a knot at the tape-end of the strings by grabbing all the string together and making a circle toward the tape, and then pulling the strings through the circle. Make a double knot by repeating this process.
4. Begin braiding the string sections together using this method: A over B, C over A, B over C, A over B. Keep the string tight as you repeat this pattern over and over to create a braid. Braid the strings until they have been woven about five inches, and then test the size on your ankle or a child's ankle to see how many more inches you need so that the braid will fit around an ankle.
5. Tie off the braided weave by doing another over-under circle knot. Cut the remaining string with about two inches left on the end of the knot. Tie the braided string around someone's ankle by tying the two ends of string in a double over-under knot. Cut off the leftover string with scissors.
