If you have a problem with alcohol addiction or know someone who does, Alcoholics Anonymous is an organization that can help an addict change their lifestyle. Membership is free, and everyone is welcome. A.A. has no political or institutional affiliation. Meetings are held worldwide and are relatively easy to find.
Instructions
1. Look in the yellow pages of the local directory. Look under "Alcoholism," and find nearly one hundred seventy locations for alcoholism counseling in Los Angeles. If this seems too daunting, look under "Alcoholics Anonymous." Call these numbers to find local meeting times and locations.
2. Contact one of the three A.A. Intergroups in Los Angeles. These offices coordinate activities for various individual area meetings. They will also have information on the local meeting times and locations.
3. Check with local police stations and hospitals. Both places will have meeting schedules.
4. Visit area churches and places of worship. Churches will usually have information on A.A. meetings, and may even hold their own support groups. Since Alcoholics Anonymous has no religious affiliation, this may be an option for additional spiritual support.
5. Visit Alcoholics Anonymous World Services website. It has tons of information on meetings, programs and alcoholism in local areas. For Los Angeles listings, click the tab that reads "Find A.A. Meetings." This will lead to a link for local listings. Then choose "California." The services are listed in alphabetical order by the name of the city where the program resides.
6. Ask a physician. Physicians will also remain confidential and will provide information and even advice. They may even have meeting schedules. A doctor can give you information on the health issues involved with heavy drinking.
7. Visit the Alcoholic Anonymous Los Angeles Central Office website. Here you will find a local meetings directory, and a toll-free number to call. Also listed are the hours and location of the local office.
