Using essential oils is a safe and effective way to enhance your health. Essential oils can be used either by inhalation, ingestion or being applied directly to the skin. Essential oils are extremely concentrated extracts from different plants. Because they are concentrated, a small amount of essential oils can go a long way in assisting your good health.
Instructions
1. Choose which essential oils you want to use. Some essential oils that are beneficial to the respiratory system are cinnamon bark, cloves, eucalyptus, frankincense, geranium, marjoram, myrrh, oregano, rosemary, rosewood, thyme and white fir. There are also essential oil blends specifically designed to benefit the lungs that you can purchase online, at health food stores or at an apothecary.
2. Diffuse the essential oils into the air using an oil diffuser. Oils that are diffused into the air can be breathed into the lungs.
3. Inhale the essential oils. There are a few different ways to inhale essential oils. One is to put a couple drops of the essential oil into the palm of your hand. Rub the oil into your hand, and then cup your hand over your nose and mouth and breathe deeply. Use a handkerchief or cotton swab if you don't want to use your hand. You can also add a few drops of essential oils to a bowl of hot (not boiling) water and place your face close to the bowl so that you can inhale the steam that rises out of the bowl. Drape a towel over your head to trap the steam between your face and the bowl.
4. Apply the essential oil directly to your skin by mixing it into a carrier oil such as almond or olive oil and rubbing it onto your chest. Test the essential oil on a small section of your skin to make sure you do not have an allergic reaction.
5. Add the essential oils to a bath by mixing them into your bath oil or bath salts. The essential oils will be absorbed into your skin through the water, and the steam in the bath will allow the essential oils to penetrate your nose and mouth.
