Osteoporosis Symptoms & Cures

Osteoporosis is a condition that causes the bones to be brittle and weak. With this condition a person can easily fracture bones with just mild stress, such as lifting a heavy object or moving the wrong way. One cause of osteoporosis is low levels of phosphorus, calcium and other minerals in the bones. Taking sufficient amounts of calcium and vitamin D can help prevent the condition.

No Pain

During the early stages of osteoporosis there may be no pain or symptoms. During this time the bones are being weakened by the condition.

Height Loss

Osteoporosis symptoms can include gradual loss of height as your posture becomes stooped.

Back Pain

Fractured Bones

Osteoporosis symptoms can include fractures of bones. This includes the vertebrae, hips and wrists.

Hormonal Therapy

Hormonal therapy was once the common treatment for osteoporosis. Concerns over the side effects of hormonal therapy have changed how some doctors treat the condition.

Perscription Drugs

Prescription drugs used for the treatment of osteoporosis include such drugs as bisphosphonates, raloxifene, calcitonin, teriparatide and tamoxifen.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is used to help manage osteoporosis and significantly reduce the symptoms of the condition. This includes exercise and working with weights.
