The Opalescence teeth whitening product works to remove stains and brighten teeth using carbamide peroxide. This form of peroxide has more penetrative effects than regular hydrogen peroxide and is often found in tooth whitening products. Carbamide peroxide has increased effectiveness because the slower action of the product allows for your teeth to become whiter.
Dental Molds
Have you dentist make a mold of your teeth in order to build the dental trays you will need to perform the whitening procedure. This will ensure the trays fit correctly and penetrate crevices exactly. You can purchase the Opalescence product from your dentist as well. Opalescence gel comes in tubes that are used individually along with the trays to perform the whitening procedure.
Brushing
Use a tooth-whitening toothpaste to brush your teeth before you use Opalescence. Brush teeth thoroughly and follow with floss to ensure that you remove all food particles and plaque. Dry your teeth with a clean towel or cloth to remove excess moisture or saliva so the product will adhere to the teeth.
Apply
Use Opalescence before going to bed to allow for maximum whitening to occur. Spread the Opalescence gel into the trays by squeezing one of the individual tubes (about 1/4 tube) into the top and bottom trays. Do not overfill trays to avoid any overflow. Put the top tray over your top teeth and the bottom tray over your bottom teeth. Wipe up any excess with a towel or cloth.
Removal
When you wake up in the morning, remove the trays from the top and bottom teeth. Use lukewarm water to rinse your mouth, since your teeth may be somewhat sensitive to cold water. Follow by brushing your teeth with a whitening toothpaste. Rinse, repeat and rinse again. Perform this procedure nightly until you get your desired whiteness. Keep your teeth white by avoiding staining drinks such as soda and coffee, and by using the whitening trays as needed to preserve whiteness.
