Gallbladder Stone Symptoms

Gallbladder stones are hardened bile that forms small pebble-sized stones in the gallbladder. People with gallbladder stones can walk around without any symptoms for long periods of time. When symptoms begin to arise, a doctor's care should be sought, as the condition may be getting serious.

Pain

Short-term pain in the back or upper abdomen, especially after eating fatty foods, may indicate gallstones are present. If pain persists for more than five hours, a doctor should be sought immediately.

Nausea

Gallstones can cause nausea or vomiting. This may also be accompanied by a swollen abdomen or a bloated or gassy feeling.

Jaundice

If the whites of the eyes or the skin takes on a yellowish hue, this may indicate that the gallstones are causing a blockage, which can cause severe damage or infection of the gallbladder.

Fever

Gallstones can cause a fever which may accompany pain attacks, or may be an ongoing low-grade fever. Fevers may also be accompanied by chills.

Decreased Appetite

Abdominal distension or a bloated abdomen may cause gallstone sufferers to lose their appetites and feel full, even if they haven't eaten.

Abnormal Stool

Stools with a clay-like color and consistency may indicate gallstones.
