Acupuncture For Hip Pain

A four-year study, completed in 2004 at the University of Maryland Medical Center proved the effectiveness of acupuncture in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. Director of Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Lixing Lao, Ph.D., L.Ac., states that acupuncture can act as a preventative measure in keeping the body healthy.

Background

Acupuncture practitioners believe that hip pain is caused by the weakened or interrupted flow of energy within the body. It focuses on treating several acupoints to correct the energy flow and relieve pain.

Acupuncture in Hip Pain

Acupuncture uses thin tiny needles and inserts it into particular points on the skin by hand and sometimes stimulated by gentle electrical currents to promote pain relief.

How it Works

This dry needle technique effectively releases deeper muscle groups with ease, relaxing muscle spasms and simultaneously calming the pain signals coming from the pinched nerve that cause hip pain.

Efficacy

According to Dr. Brian Berman, research has shown that neurotransmitters are released in the brain, which among other effects include inflammation and pain reduction.

Benefits

The National Institutes of Health states, that based upon the research performed that acupuncture may be an acceptable alternative in treatment of pain in areas such as lower back pain, fibromyalgia, asthma, carpal tunnel, menstrual cramps, headache and osteoarthritis.
