Chiropractors are medical professionals who diagnose and treat problems of the muscles, joints and spine, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards notes there are licensed chiropractors in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, most U.S. territories and many other countries around the world. There are three main steps necessary to locate a chiropractor.
Instructions
1. Search professional membership organizations. National and international chiropractic professional associations represent the educational, professional and advocacy interests of chiropractors around the globe---and most of them also offer directories or tools that allow you to find a chiropractor near you. The American Chiropractic Association offers a "Find a Doc" tool that lets you search for chiropractors by city, state, ZIP code or specialty; the International Chiropractors Association's tool allows you to search for a specific professional, or locate a chiropractor based on physical proximity to your city or town. You should also consider checking with your local state chiropractic society; many of these groups also offer tools to find local professionals.
2. Search through regulatory boards. Each state has a chiropractic licensing board that oversees the practice of chiropractic medicine within the state, and all chiropractic licensing boards have websites that allow you to search for licensed chiropractors in your area. The Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards features a complete directory of all licensing boards in the U.S., with links to each board's website. Although each of the state licensing boards offers a slightly different search tool, all of the state boards allow you to enter in a city, county or ZIP code and search for licensed chiropractors.
3. Use Internet directories. Websites that specialize in providing consumers with information about chiropractors and chiropractic medicine abound---so you should use these online directories in your search for a chiropractor, as many include search tools or practitioner directories. For example, Chiro Directory and Chiro Find both offer you tools that will let you find a specific chiropractor, search for a chiropractor in your community or browse local directories of chiropractors.
