Valplast is the name of a dental repair used when a patient requires only a portion of her teeth replicated. A key feature of Valplast is the use of a flexible, soft material to join the teeth in the place of the standard hard enamel found in most dentures. This soft plastic requires special care when it comes to polishing to avoid damaging or removing the protective layers applied to it. With the right dental equipment you can polish and clean Valplast appliances with effective results.
Instructions
1. Apply synthetic wet pumice onto the gums of the Valplast appliance and run it along a wet rag wheel on a buffing machine. You should wear protective glasses while working to keep any particles from getting into your eyes.
2. Hold the brown buffing agent against the moving buffing wheel to apply a thick coat around the perimeter of the wheel.
3. Dip the Valplast into a container of water and run it against the agent-covered wheel until you acquire a deep shine on the surface. Frequently put the Valplast into the water to keep the material from overheating during the buffing.
4. Switch to a black bristle brush on the buffing machine and buff the Valplast thoroughly on a low speed. This will remove any remnant blocking the Valplast from having a clear, shiny look.
5. Apply a high-shine compound on the edge of a clean rag wheel and buff the Valplast to a final, high shine. This compound will bring out all of the depth of the shine created by the buffing agent.
6. Set the Valplast into an ultrasonic bath to cleanse and remove any remaining dirt or residue.
