Play An Eb Chord For Guitar

Play an Eb Chord for Guitar

When learning to play songs that are in flat keys, such as Eb, Ab and Db, it is important to be able to play chords that fall outside of the open position. The Eb chord can be found in many songs that are written in flat keys, and since it uses all four fingers, can be used as a technique builder as well. Learning to play the Eb chord for guitar will ensure that you are ready the next time you have to learn a song that contains this voicing.

Instructions

1. Place the left hand index finger on the sixth fret of the fifth string. This is the root of the chord Eb. Keep the index, and all other fingers, in the middle or right side of the fret. This will produce the best tone and longest sustain.

2. Place the left hand middle finger on the eighth fret of the fourth string. This note is called Bb.

3. Position the left hand ring finger on the eighth fret of the third string to produce the note Eb.

4. Place the left hand pinkie finger on the eighth fret of the second string. This is a G note.

5. Strum the middle four strings, fifth through second, to produce an Eb chord. Make sure that you do not hit the two outer strings when strumming the chord. The left hand index finger may naturally mute the top string, which just leaves the lowest string to worry about when playing.
