A foot fungus is an infection that affects the skin and nails of your feet and it is highly contagious. You may pick it up when you are in areas where there is a lot of dampness or moisture, such as swimming pools, public gyms, hot tubs and showers that are shared with others. The skin on your foot becomes painful, burning, swollen, itchy and bleeding or blisters may break out. Your toenails may thicken, turn yellowish and have an unpleasant smell. While there are over-the-counter medications that offer help, there are also natural remedies that treat foot fungus.

1. Eat live culture yogurt, which is a dietary source of lactobacillus acidophilus, a "good bacteria" that lives in the intestinal tract. Live cultures are the organisms that help to transform pasteurized milk into yogurt, through the fermentation process. The Lactobacillus acidophilus in yogurt helps to fight the overgrowth of yeast caused by the candida albicans fungus. Symptoms manifest as foot fungus, yeast infections, mental fogginess, chronic fatigue and other symptoms.Candida albicans flourishes in environments where there is a lot of moisture, such as pool areas and shower floors, making your feet vulnerable to foot fungus. Avoid baked goods make with baker's yeast, as they will contribute to your flourishing candida, which can exacerbate your condition. You should eat a cup of yogurt daily. Check the label to make sure the product you get has "live active cultures."
2. Dab on tea tree oil. It comes from the Australian tea tree, known for having a strong aroma and thick, sticky leaves that offer medicinal properties when it is made into a "tea", after boiling its leaves. Tea tree oil has been used for centuries by the Aborigines for healing purposes. Since it is a potent fungicide and antiseptic, you should use it to clear up your foot fungus, Apply it at full strength twice a day, until you see improvement. Make sure the product you use is 100% tea tree oil, to ensure that you are using the highest potency. Use it externally only.
3. Soak your feet in warm water and organic apple cider vinegar for about 15 minutes daily. Make certain that you dry your feet well, to prevent moisture from clinging to your feet.
4. Sip some pau d'arco tea. Pau d'arco, also called lapacho, comes from the inner bark of a Brazilian tree known as the Tabebula avellanedae. It helps to combat viruses, bacteria and fungal infections. You can get this in the form of tea bags. Drink three cups every day, sweetened with honey. In some individuals, pau d'arco may cause faintness, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. If you are on anticoagulant or anti-platelet medications, pau d'arco may increase their effect and lead to internal bleeding.
5. Soak your feet in Epsom salts for half an hour daily to help clear up your problem. Put on a pair of clean cotton socks when you are ready for bed and put chopped, raw garlic in them first. Garlic is a natural antibiotic and works to help clear up fungal infections.
