What Is An Aquamarine Gem Used For

Aquamarine is the most common member of the beryl family.

From a purely scientific angle, the aquamarine is a pale blue to blueish-green member of the beryl family, and as such is related to the emerald. The Encyclopedia Britannica states that it is the most common variety of beryl, which is sourced mainly in Brazil, but also in Europe and the United States.

Bright Sparklers

Jewelry with aquamarine is beautiful and affordable.

Aquamarine is a popular choice for jewelry of all sorts. It is pretty and abundant, which means that jewelry with aquamarine is more affordable than the "big" gems like emeralds, rubies, sapphires and diamonds. According to the International Coloured Gemstones Association, its light and cool colors make it a favorite of designers, who find countless ways to include this gemstone in classic and modern jewelry.

Body Comforts

Crystal therapists use gemstones to aid healing for a variety of ailments. "The Crystal Bible" by Judy Hall recommends Aquamarine for "sore throats, swollen glands and thyroid problems." It further mentions that this crystal helps to regulate hormones and growth, has a general tonic effect, strengthens cleansing organs and eyes, jaw, teeth, the stomach and the immune system. To use crystals as a medicine, you can either place them on your body or make an "elixir." For this, you soak the crystal in water for some time and drink the water after removing the crystal.

Heart And Soul

In crystal therapy, the benefits don't stop with the body. Crystals are also reported to ease psychological complaints. Aquamarine is said to calm the mind and to give courage, to enhance intuition and to soothe fears and anxiety. Doreen Virtue's "Crystal Therapy" links Aquamarine with the Archangels Ariel and Raguel.

Furthermore, Aquamarine is the birthstone of the month of March and therefore associated with the Pisces astrological sign.
