Rehmannia For Menopause

Rehmannia is an herb that is used in traditional Chinese medicine, or TCM, for the treatment of menopause and other conditions, according to botanical.com. It is usually used in conjunction with other herbs as a part of an herbal formula.

Significance

Rehmannia is said to benefit the kidneys and bone marrow and nourish the blood in traditional Chinese medicine, according to Subhuti Dharmananda, Ph.D. the Director of the Institute for Traditional Medicine in Portland, Oregon.

Effects

Formulas such as Rehmannia Six, a common Chinese herbal formula used to treat menopause, have been found to reduce the symptoms of menopause and balance female hormones such as estrogen.

Causes

Menopause is caused by the natural decline in hormone production by the ovaries, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Potential

In a study published in August of 2003 by Kwi-Ok Oh and a team of researchers from several Korean universities, an extract of rehmannia was found to inhibit bone loss that leads to osteoporosis due to an ovariectomy in female patients.
