Use Sage For Cosmetics

Sage is one of those ingredients that makes a valuable addition to any homemade cosmetic preparation. This is mostly because it is a valuable astringent and is typically used as a facial astringent for oily skin types. It can also be used as a deodorant or hair rinse.

In this article I will outline use sage to create your own skin care products. For these recipes you can either use an extract, which you can purchase from an herbal supply or health food store or in a tea.

Instructions

1. Make a sage facial astringent by filling a sterilized glass jar almost to the top with witch hazel. Add 10 to 20 drops of sage extract. Cover and shake. Apply to your skin with a cotton ball after cleansing and before moisturizing. This will help control oily skin.

2. Use sage as a deodorant to help turn off overactive sweat glands. Prepare the facial astringent recipe as directed in Step 1. Add four drops of tea tree or lavender essential oil. Apply to your armpits as needed. Wait one hour after shaving before applying it.

3. Prepare the tea for a hair rinse. Prepare two cups of tea by pouring two cups boiling water over two teaspoons of the dried herb. Let steep for 15 minutes. Add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Shampoo and condition hair and rinse. Massage the sage hair rinse into your hair and towel dry.
