Raise Core Temperature With A Heating Pad

Core temperature is the temperature of your deep internal structures. It is measured by thermometer. It is important to keep up the core temperature in a person's body for optimum brain and organ function. Dangerously low body core temperatures may cause the body and brain to function improperly and can be life threatening. Low core temperatures may be caused by extreme cold, drugs, alcohol consumption, metabolic disorders such as diabetes and even shock from an injury or traumatic event. One method of increasing core temperatures is with the use of a heating pad.

Instructions

Raise Core Temperature With a Heating Pad

1. Find a warm place out of the draft or cold, such as a couch or bed. If neither is available, find the next best option: a comfy chair or even the floor if nothing else is available.

2. Plug in the heating pad and let it warm up. While it is heating up, get a blanket and a small towel.

3. Wrap the heating pad in a thin towel to keep it from burning the skin as it warms the body and brings the core temperature up.

4. Place the wrapped heating pad against the center of the body, heart and stomach area. To keep the heat on the body and not escaping, wrap the person with a blanket. The blanket will help seal in the heat from the heating pad and keep it on the body.
