What Are The Dangers Of Tourmaline

Tourmaline has many positive qualities.

Tourmaline is a mineral--classed as a crystal or semi-precious gemstone--and is most widely used to make jewelry. Despite its reputation to protect its wearer, there are a few reasons to be cautious when it comes to the popular mineral.

Putting Too Much Stock in Its Claims

Tourmaline is thought to offer many positive qualities to those who wear it--including to protect from danger and misfortune, promote positive thoughts, improve fertility, balance hormones, calm nerves and help peaceful sleep. However, putting to much stock into these "powers" could be dangerous to the wearer.

Electrical Charge

Tourmaline possesses pyroelectricity and piezoelectricity, which could be potentially harmful if the mineral is used in ways other than how it's intended.

Flammability in Ceramic Irons

Besides jewelry, tourmaline's other use is in ceramic hair irons, which like most hair irons are highly flammable. A danger associated with it is its presence in these hot irons, which should not be placed near anything that could catch fire.
