Symptoms Of Calcaneal Nerve Damage

Calcaneal nerve damage includes any damage along or against the calcaneal nerve, located in the foot toward the back of the heel. It is connected to the posterior tibial nerve. Symptoms include numbness, pain, stabbing pain, and lingering pain and numbness.

Calcaneal Nerve Entrapment

Symptoms of calcaneal nerve entrapment mimic plantar fasciitis but do not occur because of stepping on that nerve. Symptoms include a burning pain that worsens at night.

Lateral Recurrent Calcaneal Nerve

Symptoms of lateral recurrent calcaneal nerve damage radiate toward the outside of the foot. Entrapment of this nerve could include a calcaneal spur on the plantar fascia.

Inferior Calcaneal Neuropathy

Also known as Baxter's neuropathy, damage to this be caused by a calcaneal spur or foot derangement. Symptoms include heel pain that has the same symptoms as plantar fasciitis.

Medial Cancaneal Neuropathy

Studies show that medial cancaneal neuropathy is associated with plantar fasciitis. This is caused by swelling in the tarsal tunnel which causes numbness in the heel.

Treatment

Treatments for various foot pains and disorders may include drugs, injections into the affected area, and foot pads to relief stress and pressure. For serious problems, surgery will often be used.
