Home Remedy To Soften Feet

Since your feet take a beating from the rigors of daily life--not to mention improper footwear--they can develop calluses and rough spots that are not only unsightly, but also uncomfortable. It is important to take good care of your feet, just like you would any other part of your body. There are some simple home remedies for your feet to keep them soft and free from calluses and discomfort.

Soak and Rub

The best advice for getting soft feet is to wear sensible shoes and soak tired feet whenever you can. When you do experience tough, callused feet, try using a pumice stone. Soak your feet in a solution of warm water and Epsom salt. Gently rub your heels and soles with a pumice stone after soaking. Do this once daily to maintain soft, healthy feet.

Sour Feet

Another easy and natural remedy is lemon. Place the peels of a lemon on the heels of your feet and keep them on overnight. Cover your feet with a bandage or wear sweat socks to secure the peels in place. Calluses dissolve within a few days of treatment. Keep the skin on your feet soft with this treatment, combined with moisturizing with lotions that contain glycerin or lanolin.

Aspirin for Your Feet?

Another alternative treatment uses the pumice stone again, but with the addition of aspirin. Take five aspirin and crush them. An easy way to crush the aspirin is to put the aspirin between two paper towels and use a heavy mug or a meat tenderizer to crush the tablets. Mix the crushed aspirin with 1/2 tsp. each of water and lemon juice. Apply this paste to your foot. Put your foot in a plastic bag and then wrap with a hot towel. The paste forms something similar to a facial mask, but one that's tough enough for your feet. Keep the wrap on for 10 minutes and then exfoliate with the pumice stone to remove the dead skin.

Oil Your Feet

Another softening remedy is to apply a coat of olive oil onto your feet and leave it on overnight. Paint your feet with olive oil using a kitchen basting brush, and then put on thick sweat socks. Sleep with the socks on. Do this twice a week for softer feet.

Alternately, soak your feet in rosewater and glycerin and follow up by gently scrubbing with a loofah sponge--this results in soft skin on your feet.
