Make Ultrasound Pictures

Ultrasound imaging provides a fascinating glimpse of the inside of the body.

Ultrasound is an innovative imaging technique in which sound waves are used to create a picture of the inside of the body. Ultrasounds are most commonly used during pregnancy to check on the development of the fetus, but they are also used to identify health problems such as kidney stones, growths and tumors. Two new types of ultrasound technologies have emerged: Doppler and 3-D, both of which have revolutionized ultrasound imaging.

Instructions

1. Allow the patient time to remove clothing from the area to be scanned. Cover any areas of the body that don't need to be exposed with a sheet or cloth.

2. Apply a mineral-based jelly to the area. The jelly eliminates air pockets from forming between the scanner and the body.

3. Cover the external probe with plastic and begin the exam. Images will appear on the monitor of the ultrasound.

4. Use the disk to save images. Click 'print' to make pictures of the ultrasound images.
