Donating Eggs For Money

Advances in fertility treatments in recent years have made it easier for couples experiencing difficulties to actually give birth to their own child. However, even with the wonder of modern technology, some couples just can't conceive. If the problem involves the woman's eggs or lack thereof, sometimes the couple will seek a third party to serve as an egg donor. This process, though involved, often compensates the donor very well, and helps the couple to create a child with the father's genetic material.

To donate eggs for money, you must first contact someone who is looking for eggs. Typically, this would be an infertility clinic, an egg broker, or in rare instances, an actual couple. Next, you will likely be pre-screened based on age (generally speaking, you need to be between the ages of 21 and 35 to donate), then asked to come in for an interview, fill out questionnaires, or both. If, after that, you are still being considered as an acceptable candidate, you will most likely go to several medical appointments, where blood and urine will be drawn, and pelvic exams and ultrasounds performed, and where you'll be apprised of the procedures and potential risks that accompany egg donation. You will also undergo psychological screening, as well as be asked to give a very thorough family and personal health history.

Once you've fulfilled all the screening requirements, you wait until your eggs are chosen for use. Typically, the couple who pick you as a donor will remain anonymous, although this can differ by program. Once you're chosen, you will usually being hormone injections immediately, which stimulate the production of multiple eggs. Expect multiple trips to the clinic for blood draws and ultrasounds during this time. Once the eggs are ready for retrieval, you will undergo a simple surgical procedure called a transvaginal ovarian aspiration, where a needle is inserted through the vagina and into each follicle to retrieve the eggs. Anesthesia or pain killers will be administered during the surgery. Following the procedure, you will be advised to take it easy and avoid strenuous activity for several days.

Your payment for egg retrieval will depend on your initial contract, and whether you followed the rules outlined within and completed all the required procedures. The fee for egg donation varies, but typically ranges from $3,000 up to $10,000 dollars, with more money often being paid to highly desirable donors. Payment is based on the services you provide as a donor and not the eggs themselves, so the ultimate outcome should not affect compensation. However, if your egg donation results in an actual normal pregnancy and birth, it will likely be easier for you to donate eggs again for compensation in the future.
