Get Health Insurance For Low Income Families

If you are struggling to provide health care for your family--and your employer won't offer it for a low monthly fee--it's time to take it upon yourself to provide the insurance for yourself and your family that you deserve. Whether it's dental insurance if you are worried about future braces for your child--or medical insurance for doctor's visits and emergencies--there's hope for health insurance no matter what financial income bracket you fall within.

Instructions

1. Speak with Kaiser Permanente. With a claim to aim to provide quality care and coverage for all who need it, this insurance provider is all-inclusive and reliable. With a low co-pay, it's the smart choice for families if you are in California, Hawaii, Maryland, Virginia, Oregon, Washington, Ohio, Colorado or Washington, D.C. Other states may offer this as well. Check with the website in the Resources section below.

2. Investigate your eligibility for Medicaid. Consult the link in the Resources section below to determine your exact eligibility. Since it is set up for low income families, you can find help here that you can't find anywhere else. The organization is especially kind to children. Your child may be eligible even if you aren't. Be sure to ask all questions possible to see if you qualify. Medicaid works by paying your health provider directly. No cash will be exchanged between you and Medicaid.

3. Go to a Hill-Burton obligated facility in your area. In 1946, money for advancement was given to hospitals and medical centers all over the country by the government. In exchange, these organizations were to provide free or discounted health care to those in the area and those in need. You can see the link in our Resources section to find the obligated facility in your area. Although monies are no longer being given, those places are still under the obligation to help those in need. Although this isn't direct health insurance, it can provide the security that health insurance provides if you know you and your family members have a place to receive service in case of an emergency and to address regular health concerns and check-ups.

4. Call 1-877-KIDS-NOW if your concern is for insuring your children. A national initiative for children's health insurance is called Insure Kids Now! If you have a low income, your child is likely eligible. For no (or little) cost to you, your child can obtain check ups, medications, and hospital visits. There are also other services offered.

5. Consider health savings accounts if you absolutely cannot spare the money for health insurance without fear you may need it for a later date. Health savings accounts are a fairly new phenomenon. A problem with this scenario is that the costs for emergency health care in an emergency situation or severe illness can go up to tens of thousands of dollars. It is very difficult to come up with that much in savings. If you choose to have health insurance, instead, the amount saved would be enormous. To be on the safe side, it's best to go with some sort of health insurance.
