Prevent Adderall Abuse
If you have a child who is taking Adderall for ADD or ADHD, you may be wondering make sure that your child is not abusing his or her medication. If you suspect that your child is abusing Adderall, it is your responsibility as a parent to make sure that it stops.
Instructions
1. Control your child's Adderall consumption. If your child has to take pills at school, make sure that they are kept in the office and given to him at the appropriate time.
2. Ask your child's doctor about time released medications. You can get Adderall that is time released and only has to be taken once a day. In this case, you can administer the drug before school and then put it away in a hidden place. This limits your child's access to the drug and keeps you in control.
3. Make sure your child really needs the medication. If your child is taking Adderall and you are not convinced that it is necessary, get a second opinion from another doctor. Talk to your child's teachers to get a better perspective of her behavior and attention span.
4. Do whatever it takes to keep the Adderall locked away if you think your child might be taking too much or selling the Adderall to others. Purchase a small lockbox to which only you have the key or combination.
5. Talk to your child. Make sure that he knows the consequences of selling drugs, both personal and legal. Sometimes children with ADD/ADHD have issues that need to be talked about with a therapist. If you think your child does, then it is your responsibility to make sure that happens.
