There are a number of surgeries designed to treat wrinkles under the eye.
Many people suffer from wrinkles under and around the eye. A person with these wrinkles can find that they negatively affect self-confidence and feelings of happiness. There are a number of cosmetic procedures that have been designed to remove wrinkles around the eyes. These include blepharoplasty, laser resurfacing and cosmetic injections.
Blepharoplasty
A blepharoplasty, sometimes called an eyelid lift, involves making cuts along the natural creases of the eyelid and then removing excess tissue, skin and fat from underneath before resealing the wounds using fine sutures. Blepharoplasty can help to reduce the appearance of large wrinkles under the eyelids, as well as bags and puffy eyes. Recovery time is about two weeks after the procedure. Blepharoplasty is not recommended for reducing fine wrinkles.
Laser Resurfacing
Laser resurfacing involves using laser pulses to destroy the top layer of skin and vaporize water in the skin. This causes the skin to initiate the healing process, tightening the surface and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Laser resurfacing also shortens collagen fibers in the skin, which can increase the skin's elasticity. Recovery time for laser resurfacing is usually a matter of hours. Laser resurfacing on wrinkles around the eyes can produce best results, which can last for up to 10 years.
Cosmetic Injections
Though not really surgery, cosmetic injections can be used to fill in wrinkles in the skin, including under the eyes. There are many substances that can be injected, some of which are botox, collagen and hyaluronic acid. Some injections, such as collagen, contain primarily natural substances already found in the skin. Some, such as botox, are not already found in the skin. Botox, for instance, works by paralyzing the affected area, smoothing it. Consult your doctor to find the injection best for you.
Benefits
Surgery to get rid of wrinkles under the eyes can provide improved self-confidence and happiness. The recovery times are usually short and the benefits quickly apparent. You should talk to your doctor if you find that cosmetic surgery has not reduced the appearance of wrinkles under your eyes.
Considerations
As with all surgeries, you should consult your doctor before making any decisions. In addition, many surgeries performed for cosmetic reasons are not covered by health insurance. For this reason, talk to your insurance provider before undergoing any cosmetic procedures so you are fully aware of the costs involved.
