It is very tempting to stay up to watch a move, talk on the phone with friends or go out on the town for the night. The next day you wake up tired and late for school or work and you swear you will not do that again. Then the cycle repeats the very next night. It's up to you to break it.
Instructions
1. Set a time each night to go to bed early and do not deviate from this schedule. Put your phone on mute so you are not tempted to answer when it rings.
2. Refrain from reading or watching anything that stimulates your mind.
3. Establish a ritual just before going to bed. Your body will get sleepy when you do the same set of things. For example, you might take a warm relaxing bath while sipping warm milk before going to bed. Once in bed, you might put on soft, relaxing music at a low volume on the radio with the timer turned on. You can drift off to sleep to the relaxing sound.
4. Get into bed and stay there. Close your eyes and let your mind drift. Don't focus on any one thought, just let go. Continue until you are asleep. Resist the temptation to get up, unless you must go to the bathroom. Add visualization. Visualize peaceful scenes. Buy visualization tapes or CDs for relaxation and let them guide you into sleep.
5. Make sure you get up when your alarm goes off in the morning. Part of going to bed early is rising early. Do not sleep in, or it will be harder to get to sleep at night. Get up at sunrise.
