Foot Detox Therapies

Foot detox therapies have not been widely accepted by the medical community, so you may only be getting clean feet and a relaxing feeling from one of these treatments--which, after all, is not a bad thing in and of itself. The therapies listed below have not been shown to cause any health problems, but it is always best to check with your doctor before you make any decision to treat any condition on your own.

Detox Foot Baths

There are a few detox foot baths on the market that make claims to detoxify your body through your feet by using special baths to stimulate different points in your foot, which in turn may rid your body of toxins (see Resources).

Detox Foot Pads

To use a detox foot pad, place it on the bottom of your foot before going to bed at night and remove it in the morning. The toxins are supposed to transfer from your foot to the pad overnight, which in theory should improve how you feel.

Considerations

There has not been any scientific testing or research to back any claims that these baths or foot pads actually do what their manufacturers claim they do.

Benefits

The real benefit of using these products is relaxation as well as the placebo effect. When you truly believe that something works, the placebo effect can kick in and actually make you feel better; but, again, there is no evidence to support that foot detoxes actually work, and whether the placebo effect is real is still a hotly debated topic in the medical community.

Time Frame

According to the manufacturers, the effects of foot detox therapies can be noticed in as little as 24 hours or as long as a month, depending on the product.
