Instructions
Stop Smoking Permanently
1. Wear a nicotine patch on your arm to avoid having severe nicotine withdrawal. Read the instructions on the box to ensure maximum effectiveness. Weaning yourself from nicotine slowly enhances success. If you want to quit smoking permanently, wearing a nicotine patch is a great idea.
2. Chew nicotine gum. Whenever you have a craving for a cigarette, chew a piece of nicotine gum. The gum does two things; it helps sooth the craving by giving your body the nicotine it needs, and it allows your mouth the oral satisfaction you gave up when you quit smoking.
3. Keep gum and hard candy with you at all times. One of the biggest complaints from people who quit smoking, is weight gain. When the body craves nicotine many times a person will grab food in an attempt to get rid of the discomfort. Because the body isn't craving food, the discomfort is never relieved; thus more food is eaten. When a strong craving hits, pop a piece of gum or hard candy in your mouth, not food.
4. Go for a walk during the hard times; especially after a meal. For many smokers, the after meal cigarette is the best. As soon as you finish your meal, get up from the table and go for a walk. After awhile, the habit of picking up a cigarette will leave, but you must exchange the cigarette for a walk. Habits are hard to break, but with strong determination, they can be broken.
5. Keep a notebook handy. Make a list of every time you crave a cigarette. It is important to pay attention to the triggers. What are you doing when the craving hits? This will ensure greater success for quitting smoking permanently. Instead of being caught off guard, you will grow accustomed to those moments when you crave a cigarette the most. Being prepared is half the battle.
