Basic Therapeutic Techniques

Basic Therapeutic Techniques

Therapeutic techniques are many and varied and include physical therapy, counseling therapy, massage therapy, trigger point therapy, music therapy and aromatherapy among others. Each of these therapies has its own application and use, though many of these can also be used in combination depending on the treatment the patient requires. Basic therapeutic techniques can be used in daily life to overcome a number of minor and major conditions.

Using Basic Physical Therapy

Most people carry the impression that physical therapy is only meant for people who have had an accident or a stroke and require therapy to get back full usage of their body. However, basic physical therapy can be used on an everyday basis to keep a number of afflictions at bay. Basic physical therapy includes the most basic exercises such as stretching, climbing up and down stairs, flexing your arms, legs, fingers and other parts of your body to improve blood circulation and vitality. Regular application of basic physical therapy can help you keep conditions such as arthritis and hypertension at bay.

Using Basic Counseling Therapy

Counseling therapy also carries the impression of being applicable to juvenile offenders, quarreling couples and addicts. In everyday use, counseling therapy can help solve many routine problems and help keep your mind relaxed and functioning normally. Basic counseling therapy includes having open heart-to- heart talks, discussing issues and accepting them, seeking or giving advice on stress-causing factors and anger management. Day-to-day counseling can be handled by an elder in the house or anyone who has a calm, rational manner and is clear in his or her thought processes.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is a great way to keep both the body and mind relaxed. Basic massage therapy does not require any in-depth knowledge of massaging techniques or equipment. Simple tricks such as rotating your head in a circular fashion, rubbing the back of your neck for few minutes, pressing the balls of your thumbs with your forefingers, massaging the webbing between thumb and forefinger, rubbing the shoulders and pressing the temples are all basic massage therapy methods that can take away stress and fatigue. Using these therapeutic techniques at work can help you get through those long hours.

Trigger Point Therapy

Often connected with acupressure and acupuncture, trigger point therapy involves activating and stimulating certain points in the body that act as triggers to releasing stress and tension. Trigger point therapy can also help bring on contractions in expectant mothers whose babies are overdue.

Some trigger points that can be stimulated through basic therapy include the webbing between thumb and forefinger, the trigger point at the back of the ankles and those on the back of the hand.

Music Therapy and Aromatherapy

Both music and aromatherapy are important parts of basic therapeutic techniques. Music has long been known to have a soothing effect on the brain, while aromatherapy can help you relax and feel good about yourself. Both these therapies are easy to use and can have excellent effects.
