Make A Natural Ointment

Produce an ointment made from natural ingredients at home.

Ointments and creams to treat minor skin ailments such as diaper rash can be found on the shelves of grocery and drug stores in almost every town. Several of these store-bought ointments contain man-made materials and chemical additives that can irritate the skin. Some may even cause an allergic reaction. A safer alternative is to produce homemade ointments made of natural ingredients.

Instructions

Adult Ointment

1. Place one-half cup of powdered calendula flower into a small bowl that contains one cup of olive oil.

2. Cover the bowl with a dish towel and allow it to remain for two weeks. This will give the calendula flower time to infuse into the oil.

3. Hold a strainer over a small bowl, then strain the calendula flower and olive oil mixture until all of the liquid has been removed.

4. Refrigerate the solid portion in an airtight container. Use it as needed.

Diaper Rash Ointment

5. Mix one tsp. mineral oil and one tsp. cornstarch in a small bowl until it forms a paste.

6. Add two tsp. zinc oxide and two tsp. antibiotic ointment to the bowl.

7. Stir until the ingredients are well incorporated.

8. Store the ointment in an airtight container and use as needed.
