Remove A Tick Safely

Remove a Tick Safely

So you came in from outside and realized that you have a tick that has embedded itself into your skin? Not to worry as you can safely remove these at home.

Instructions

1. If you do yard work outside, spend time in your garden, or just enjoy taking your dog for a walk, chances are you will come across your share of ticks. Removing a tick (from yourself or your dog) does not have to turn into an expensive medical crisis, it can be safely done right at home. The first thing you will need is a sanitized sharp pair of tweezers. Rubbing alcohol can help sterilize your tweezers.

2. Next, grab hold of the tick as close to the skin as you possibly can. The idea here is to make sure you get a firm hold on the tick's head, not it's body. If you try to pull it out by it's body, the head will remain embedded in the skin and continue to pose problems. So be sure you firmly grab the tick's head.

3. Once you have a strong grip on the tick's head with your tweezers, pull upward away from the skin in a slow and steady motion until the tick releases from the skin.

4. Either during removal or the bite itself can expose your wound to harmful bacteria from the tick. Dab a bit of rubbing alcohol onto a tissue and wipe the area down in order to clean off the wound.
