Types of Kyanite
Although relatively new to the gemstone arena, Kyanite has become a favored stone among healers and other New Age practitioners. An unusual stone in its hardness qualities, kyanite is more commonly known for its pale blue color. However, it is also available in other colors as well. Due to its brittle nature, kyanite is not often made into jewelry, but can be used as rough nuggets instead.
Characteristics
Derived from the Greek word 'kyanos', which means 'blue', kyanite is composed of aluminum silicate. It's distinctive linear striations, when viewed from the side, resemble the pages of a book. An usual feature of kyanite is its hardness value. When scratched across its vertical axis, kyanite has a 6.5 rating on the Mohs scale of hardness. When scratched parallel to the axis, its hardness is only a 4.5. This means that there is the tendency for the stone to become brittle along the vertical axis. Kyanite is generally a blue stone, but there are also black and green types of kyanite as well. Kyanite is found mostly in Nepal and Tibet.

It's a good stone to carry with you if you need to make a presentation or give a speech. It enhances creativity, so is a good stone for singers, musicians, composers, writers and craftspeople. It is used extensively in mediation for past-life recall, dreams, visualization and communicating with other creatures, plants, birds and fish.
Black Kyanite
Black types of kyanite are used in directional energy healing because of their fan shapes. Black kyanite is useful in removing negative energy, getting rid of attachments, and restoring positive energy back into the body. It is used on the root chakra.
Green Kyanite
Green Kyanite is used on the heart chakra to strengthen it both emotionally and physically. It is often used when wanting to communicate with nature spirits. Green kyanite helps with depression, enhances intuition and aids in dream work. It is also helpful to relieve sinus problems, asthma and epilepsy.
Fun Facts
Kyanite acts like a conductor, helping high-frequency energy move through the body. It is the stone for the astrological signs of Pisces, Libra, Taurus and Aries. It is ruled by Jupiter and the elements of air and water. Because kyanite doesn't retain negative energy like other gemstones, it doesn't need to be energetically charged or cleansed.
