Ways To Lower Triglycerides

Having high triglyceride levels can be bad for the body. Triglycerides are the most common fat that is found in our food. Having a high triglyceride count is dangerous because it has been linked with heart disease. But we can do many things to lower triglyceride levels in the body.


How Triglycerides Are Made


Triglycerides are a scientific term for fat deposits that are kept in the body. Triglycerides are formed when the body turns carbohydrates that it consumes into glucose that is to be used for energy. When all the cells in the body have all the energy they need, they send back the excess glucose, which goes into the liver and is turned into glycogen, and then gets sent into the body's muscles. When the muscles have all the glycogen they need, the extra goes back into the liver and is turned into triglycerides, which the body finally stores as fat. When lots of triglycerides are in the body, Some of it stays in the blood. This thickens the blood and causes blockages that may lead to a stroke or even heart failure.








Ways to Lower Triglycerides


Things that cause high triglyceride levels are excess sugar intake, saturated and trans fats, and alcohol. One way you can lower triglyceride levels is to get some form of aerobic exercise; the recommended amount is 30 minutes for 5 days a week or more. You can also lower triglyceride levels by watching the food you eat. You should eat lots of fruits and vegetables as well as fiber-rich foods such as whole grains and oatmeal. Also consume foods that do not contain a lot of saturated or trans fats and switch to foods that are low in overall fat content. It is also important to reduce the consumption of alcoholic beverages as the increase triglyceride levels.


Including foods or supplements that are high in Omega 3 is important for lowering triglyceride levels. Omega 3 can be found in salmon, fish oils and flax seed. Vitamin C also plays an important role in reducing triglyceride levels as well as guggulipid extract, turmeric extract and green tea extract. Overall it is important to not overeat and to exercise frequently to reduce triglyceride levels.
