Recuperate After Knee Surgery

Getting back on your feet after major knee surgery can be a painful and long recovery. Here are a few tips.

Instructions

1. When leaving the hospital you will be given instructions on what your able to do, and things your are not able to do. If you had major knee surgery you will also be giving crutches, make sure you use the crutches and do not put any weight on the surgically repaired knee.

2. When you get home from the hospital, make sure you get your leg propped up, and only get up when you need to use the restroom, or when you go to bed. There are those who feel they can do anything and they try and do too much after knee surgery, do only what the doctor advises. When you do too much and go against doctors orders, you only have yourself to blame if the surgery is not .

3. Make sure a day or two after surgery, that you go physical therapy as per doctors orders. Give the physical therapist any paperwork from your doctor as to what you are able to do with your knee. After reading the physicians notes, the physical therapist will come up with a course of action. Make sure you follow through with any exercises that you are asked to do at home.

4. As the weeks go by you will feel like you can do more than you are being asked to do by your physical therapist. Remember you had knee surgery just weeks earlier, don't over-do it. Just follow what your doctor and physical therapist have prescribed for you. just keep on pace, you will get better, it just takes time, and the doctor and physical therapist know what is best, they have helped people many times who have had knee surgery.
