Properties Of Black Tourmaline

Although not quite as popular as watermelon or pink tourmaline, black tourmaline, also called schorl, is nonetheless an interesting gemstone.

Characteristics

When viewed from the side, black tourmaline appears transparent, but from either end, it is opaque. This black crystal gets its color from iron. When heated or creating friction on the stone, each end will become polarized.

Uses at Home and Work

Black tourmaline is a very useful stone because of its ability to deflect the electromagnetic energy of televisions and computers. It is a stone of protection against negative energy.

Metaphysical Properties

Black tourmaline is a receptive stone, ruled by Saturn and the element of Earth. As with most black stones, it is a grounding stone. It enhances protection of one's body as well as the energy around it. It can help you remain focused.

Healing Properties

In chakra healing, black tourmaline can be placed between the feet as ground and anchor. It can realign the chakras, help with arthritis and heart disease, and problems of the immune system.

Emotional Uses

Black tourmaline is often used to dispel negativity such as obsessions, fears and neuroses. It is beneficial for emotional stability.
