What Is Msm

In today's world, there are a lot of people who suffer from joint problems. This can range in severity from slight stiffness to severe pain and soreness. Chronic sufferers are always looking for ways to treat this condition that doesn't involve prescription medication. This article is going to chronicle one such substance called MSM that has been known to help with joint problems.

Features

MSM stands for methylsulfonylmethane and it is made up of sulfur which occurs naturally in small amounts in many foods like milk and tomatoes. Being that this amount is so small, it is not possible for it to be extracted naturally. This leads to a chemical process using dimethyl sulfoxide and hydrogen peroxide. The MSM then goes through a distillation process which brings it to a boiling point where compounds become separated. The separation of these compounds creates a very pure form.

Function

MSM is designed with one goal in mind. That is to help joint conditions. This goes for osteoarthritis, sprains, tendinitis, bursitis and sports-related injuries. It also has been used in concert with two other substances called Glucosamine and Chondroitin, which have also been know to treat joint problems.

Time Frame

Generally speaking, it can take up to a couple weeks to start feeling the effect of MSM. But it really depends on the severity of the joint problems. It could take up to a year of supplementing in more severe cases. As far as taking it for long periods of time goes, as of today there has been no known side effects other than having fewer colds. That is actually a health benefit.

Benefits

Other than its use for joint relief, MSM has also been known to lend handy to a wealth of other conditions as well. These are listed below. It is important to know that not everyone is going to see these benefits and results will vary.

Although it helps with constipation, it should also be known that overdosing on MSM can cause diarrhea and intestinal problems. Taking it with food can help augment this process from happening.

It improves circulation. This can be effective for people who suffer from cold hands in feet in the winter time.

MSM promotes healthier hair, skin and nails. This is a benefit that females are always in search of.

It reduces scar tissue.

It has also been known to ward off he onset of cancer and lupus. But be advised, these experiments have only been done on rodents.

Warning

As it stands right now, MSM is safe to take with other medications, but there is a word of caution. MSM has been known to cause a blood thinning effect. So if someone is already taking a blood thinner they should consult with their physician before taking MSM. This may require a lower dosage of the prescription drug.
