Make Basic Cosmetics From Palm Kernel Oil

Palm kernel oil, a versatile and highly saturated oil, provides a rich ingredient in homemade cosmetics and skin care. A semi-solid oil in most climates, palm kernel oil provides a light oil base that adds moisturizing properties to such cosmetics as lipsticks and balms, cream eye shadows and moisturizing salves. Making basic cosmetics from palm kernel oil, such as lip balms, gives you the ability to control the ingredients of your makeup.

Instructions

1. Add the refined beeswax pastilles to a microwave-safe glass bowl. Microwave the beeswax on high for approximately 25 seconds, or until it is melted.

2. Add the palm kernel oil and vitamin E oil to the bowl of melted wax and stir slowly for approximately 60 seconds. Make sure the contents are completely mixed.

3. Add small amounts of the powdered mica mineral to the bowl of warm wax and oil. Add approximately 1/4 tsp. at a time and stir briskly as it disperses throughout the concoction. Depending on how deep of a color you want, add more mica. Mica comes in a seemingly endless variety of colors.

4. Place the bowl back into the microwave for an additional 15 seconds.

5. Pour the melted, colored base into a container of your choice. With this base you can either make bright eyeshadow creams or a luxurious and silky lipstick.
