Acupuncture For Dog Allergies

Acupuncture can be very relaxing for pets.

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicinal technique that has been around for thousands of years. Today, canines can enjoy the same health benefits of acupuncture for their chronic illnesses, such as allergies.

How it Works

Acupuncture aids in boosting the immune system and helping the body to heal itself. Tiny needles are inserted at specific points of the body in order to stimulate the immune system and aid in relieving allergy symptoms.

Pet Sessions

The owner can expect their dog to receive anywhere from 5 to 15 needles during the session. These sessions can last as little as five minutes and go for as long as an hour.

Frequency

The frequency of treatment will vary from dog to dog based on the type of allergy present and the severity of the allergy. Some dogs may require treatments twice weekly or once every three weeks.

Side Effects

Fortunately, acupuncture has very few risks in canine companions. However, it is possible for an infection to occur or for a tiny needle to break.

Misconceptions

Some owners assume that their dog will immediately feel allergy relief, but this is not always true. Some dogs may appear to get worse at first before finally getting better following acupuncture treatments.
