The jujube tree is also called the Chinese date because the tree originated in China. It is an ancient plant that has been grown for over 4,000 years, according to the California Rare Fruit Growers Inc. The plant can withstand cold and warm temperatures well and grows in almost every state in the United States. The tree has drooping limbs which make it a popular choice as an ornamental tree as well as a fruit tree.
Instructions
1. Place a seed tray on a flat surface and fill each of the compartments with an all-purpose potting soil until each compartment is 3/4 full.
2. Poke a hole in the center of each compartment in the seed tray using your finger. Each hole should only be approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep. Cover the holes and jujube seeds with additional potting soil until it reaches the top of each compartment.
3. Water the seed tray thoroughly with water until the soil is wet but not soggy.
4. Place the seed tray outdoors in a location that receives direct sunlight for the majority of the day. If the outdoor temperatures are cold, place the seed tray under a fluorescent table lamp. Position the lamp so that the light is within 2 inches of the surface of the seed tray.
5. Water the seed tray when the top of the soil dries out. The jujube seeds will germinate in approximately one week.
